Buddy1987
Trying to get some discussions going for the VA people and whomever else would like to chime in with there thoughts or expertise for the possibility of some snow tomorrow. Western VA in a winter wx adv for tonight and tomorrow. 1-3 inches possible. Post your thoughts!
Buddy1987
Just getting a chance to take a look at 18z nam. Hours 20-22 are extremely close to something verifying that could make us happy. 2m 850 is literally sitting right on top of ROA area hopefully this will be an over performer like Philly but obv not as much qpf wise. HKY18
Hr 21 is borderline with 850's near ROA. Hr 24 looks very nice. I'll try to look into soundings on the 0z runs tonight. 18z is a big event for northern VA and DC it looks like.
nflwxman
ROA will get in on the action with this one. The 18z NAM was best case for everyone though.
FLweather
Honestly I think it looks interesting all the way to atleast 85 in NC. While not much model support... where the wedge has been I dont see it warming much more and once the front.. max swings through with cooling temps aloft wouldn't take much to cool the whole column to produce snow. Its just a question how soon the cold air gets in aloft. The lowest levels should stay cool enough to support snow.
Buddy1987
Skies are clear presently. Hopefully radiative cooling will do its job for awhile before the clouds make there way in.
Buddy1987
0z nam hours 12-15 with both 850 and 2m temps are practically right over ROA however with those kind of rates predicted I'm hoping we can switch over to heavy snow instead of heavy rain and
Buddy1987
Hour 17 is even better 850's south of us with 1/2" of qpf depicted

Very thin layer of cirrus atm but has dryed out some with the moon shining bright at 42.

FLweather
I'm confused on the title of this thread, but maybe that's just me. Meh... It should have been named Va/NC snow potential tomorrow. But we shall see where it goes. But VA looks to be the winner... how far south is the ?

NCSNOW
Down to 35 at the base and 36 up top at sugar. Northern NC mountain counties especially above 4000 should get a quick inch or 2 at least. Precip type radar looks encouraging for areas I just mentioned as well as are va peeps on here. Good luck! FLweather
Talk to Buddy... that is his typo. Sure hope though he is not 2 months behind in timeframe mentally wise.
superjames1992
Nam showing freezing line deep into nc with moisture No, that's just cold chasing the moisture for NC (outside the mountains, anyways). Keep in mind that that is the 0C line at that time (hr 18) while the QPF is shown from the last 6-hour period. There is nothing falling by hr 18 on the 00z NAM. Disc
Man, this event will be close to either getting a lot, or a cold rain/mix/slop. Wish it would switch over just a tad bit sooner, but hey, it's surprised us before.
Hvward
Ah my bad james, slipped my mind.... anyways hopefully our va guys cash in things are looking good for some nice flakes.
Disc
Just a tad bit too late.. Most of the heavy precip has moved out by the time this sounding is valid. Might be some flakes towards the end.
WeatherNC
Yeah, just looked at Roanoke's sounding too, starts as RN, changes to pingers around 8am, with a narrow window afterwards till about 11am, but the column is drying out top down. Wish you guys the best, N VA / DC crew gotta be loving this, several inches on Sunday followed by a glaze, now another 6"+ on top of that.
