Dsnowx53
I think some of the underperformed was due to much lower snow ratios near the coast than was predicted The surface temperatures not cooling off as much as was expected was the biggest killer, IMO. The snowflakes themselves were fine...had the surface temperatures been more solidly below freezing, there wouldn't have been any melting and I think the good ratios would have worked out. The surface wet-bulb temp were warmer than forecast by the NAM and GFS. Was supposed to help with more evaporative cooling.
winterwx21
I got the numbers off Facebook, where did u see 2.9? Yep 3 on the nose here, I'm right by u today off new Dover in north Edison 3" here as well. Nice event.
NorthShoreWx
First I've seen this. I guess this will mean less recorded snow for all of us. Al Gore will be relieved I'm sure. So far today, the new guideline hasn't made any difference here. It hasn't been snowing 6 hours yet. Conceivably under last year's guidelines I could have been wiping a board at 2:30 (minimum of 6 hours) and starting over. I might see what difference it makes today just for yucks. TWCCraig
This is just as bad as the 3/08/13 event. We were supposed to pick up 2-4", but surface temps on the south shore caused us to pick up barely anything. I'd call it an inch here, but it's melting fast and most spots are bare. bluewave
0.0 outside my window in Midtown. Every once in a while I see a car go by with snow on it. We have to take whatever we can get with these +AO/-EPO smaller events. Maybe this will be the last big +AO spike coming up.

bluewave
Another photo from earlier: That scene looked just like my drive through Malverne at the peak of the snow this morning. It was fun to watch it go from breaks in the clouds to a start as rain before a change to heavy wet snow.
