Those pics are really the best I can do in the dark. I didn't make any official measurements. Anyway you get the idea. A lot of freakin snow on the ground here still.

fortunately because of the trees and the sun angle my front yard stays in the shade for a lot of the day. My house usually hangs on to snowpack a lot longer than my neighbors across the street. The bottom 12" or so are rock hard.

I measured in untouched areas yesterday and it was around 15". Was up around 20" at the most last Thursday before the rain and compression, then added to it with the past few smaller events. During the period 2/3-2/18 I've had over 30" on top of the little bit that remained after the warmup on 2/2

Point being is even with that much snow and cold weather I never came close to a 30" snowpack. Obviously areas to the north did better and had less melting but I'd still imagine are in the 18-22" range now.

We all have a lot of snow dude, but you cant just claim a 30" snowpack here. I know its the banter thread and all, but this is still a website based on science, a science that relies on measurement as most of its historical data points.

It was an estimate. When you account for compaction, the rain today and yesterday, the numerous small events and the two biggies we've had constant snow cover here for over a month and it has to be holding some serious water.

These next few days are going to be so pleasant and nice that I'll be dreading the cold coming next week. I mean if there's a major storm potential heading forward then bring it, but there's definitely a transition into spring mode for me as we near March.

Unlike a lot on here that seem to loathe March and April, I love the comfortably cool to mild days, the occasional cloudy, misty, breezy days, and the beginnings of everything blooming (many hate this because of allergies). Every once in a while we get a powerful storm in March or April since that's always a bonus, and I'm hoping we get one this year too.

March is notorious for big powerhouse storms; Blizzard of 93, March 1888, Ash Wednesday Storm, our crazy windy nor'easter a few years ago, March 2001  :axe:  JK.

Because it rains incessantly, then flips over to hot weather the third week of May. We don't really have a spring; for nice weather you have to wait for October.

It definitely does not rain incessantly, there's been plenty of drier Springs. In fact I believe last March and April were quite dry in contrast to what most think.

Not sure it will have much of an impact but I'm sure the colder than average Atlantic won't do us any favors this spring either

A combination of 80-90% frozen lakes along with colder than normal ocean waters could mean a nasty backdoor season and a colder than normal spring, which seasonal forecasts are picking up on. I'm sure having a cold source region up north won't make matters any better either and could favor snow as late as April.

Hopefully it means a mild summer..and by mild I mean nothing over 87 :-)

Just for reference, this bluff of snow adjacent to my driveway was under 30 (~27"), or about 6" over knee height for me. I don't think YanksFan's pics quite suggest ~30", but it's hard to tell from pictures alone, and I see no reason not to assume good faith on his reports.

Unfirtunatly with all the drifting and snow falling off the roof and trees and where the snowblower threw the snow it's nearly impossible to get an accurate measurement.
