As someone who mostly lurks/reads and learns on these boards daily just wanted to throw this out there. Shouldn't someone like sferic be five posted by now? Im not one for calling anyone out but he has asked the ending time and if schools will be open tomorrow at least 15 times since last night.... Not contributing very much to anything.

I guess he's still in high school....or that his workplace's status tomorrow depends on the closing of NYC public schools. I wouldn't be shocked if there is some kind of correlation between the two.

The Euro can not be looked at seriously this year .  Not kidding  ! on the day where a major Snowstorm is goin through .

On the day of , its printing out .04 .  .03 has already fallen in Central NJ , it is easily one of its biggest busts i`ve seen

and I really used to live and die by it .

The whole "polar vortex" thing in the media is getting really annoying. While it's true that the combination of the PV on our side of the globe and the -EPO is making this winter feature more frequent and severe cold, the polar low itself is nowhere near NYC and has a limited role in snowstorms.

Too much hype.

+1

Makes you wonder what else the media misinforms the public on.

11" today brings my seasonal total to 27", which is already approximately our seasonal average.

Holding out hope we get a weenie band to get us to 12", but it's not looking likely.

I also have 27" this season in Bay Ridge here in southern Brooklyn. I think we average 24-25" (a bit less than Central Park) so that's a great place to be on 1/22. Dobbs Ferry has 38" against average seasonal snowfall of 36", so they also rate to have a great winter.

The pattern looks to produce a small to moderate event this weekend and a big storm towards Day 10. We should have 35-40" in the City by the time the PV retreats after the Super Bowl.

OKX says the 22.4" of snow at Islip makes this the 2nd snowiest January (behind 2011) on record since they started in 1984...this indicates what I thought all along...there were probably major problems with record keeping / missing data at Islip for January 1996, 2004, & 2005 (at the very least).

Record keeping has been excellent at Islip since about 2008...it was very spotty before that...witness the infamous reporting of a "trace" of snow for the December 5, 2003 storm...which brought up to 20 inches of snow in their neighborhood.

I'd say we average about 24-25" annually, a few inches below Central Park. This storm would have been a HECS with a little more blocking (the upper level neg tilted vort produced a huge area of snow out over the ocean but the progressive flow allowed it to escape), but having 20"+ snow in a month isn't common around these parts for sure. I think it's possible we end up over 30" if one of these storm threats work out. Looks like we get 1-3" more on Saturday and then we turn to Monday-right now it looks like the energy shears out and doesn't dig enough for a real storm but that can change quickly as we just saw. Snow on top of snow is also rare around here and you definitely have to treasure it when it happens around NYC.
