NEG NAO

Recommended Posts

I can't believe some of the media hype, it's beyond ridiculous and very inaccurate. It's like they think it's the Day After Tomorrow or something. Here's the deal, it's very cold, life threatening in fact, so put on several layers or avoid the cold by staying inside. It's really that simple, why make such a huge fuss when this cold wave still pales in comparison to the cold waves in the past.

That alone warrants media attention. Whether it pales in comparison to past cold waves or not is irrelevant, this kind of cold is rare and it isn't anything to play with.

My Grandmother spoke of a time, I am assuming in the 1930's, when she was able to walk across Newark Bay because it froze solid. Since she is no longer with us, I decided to google it  and found this interesting article on the NY Times from February 1895 about Newark Bay freezing over from extreme cold. The article talks about a high of 9 with a low of -7.

Winter should return after next week

Pretty bold statement there anthony. Im not making any hail mary calls until middle to end of next week. Although it does look "somewhat" more favorable for snow towards the end of the month. We shall see, all ill say if theres no blocking there wont be a big snow storm. Last week was evidence of that, little more blocking we wouldve had a great event but it taught me how very important the right -NAO was and is

Blocking may have forced that storm well SE of us, although it's possible that everything would've slowed down and fully phased while the trough was negative and the storm occluded 50 miles east of AC after hammering us for 36-48 hours ;)

It looks like we'll get a nice +PNA around and after mid-month. Still not much help from the Atlantic but we should see more of a -AO with the EPO being the wildcard. It still looks unclear whether we get more EPO ridging later on, but it does look like colder weather will return after the thaw.

Lol at schools being closed because of the cold. Meanwhile, I have to stand outside on patrol for 8 hours in it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see De Blasio follow suit and close NYC schools one day because of extreme cold eventually.

All I want to see is just two more storms this winter. One 12-18" event and another 3-6" event and I'm happy.

Walked outside today and just stood there and let the wind and cold greet me on a friendly Tuesday morning. Too many people tense up and that's what causes the discomfort. Just stand outside in peace and just let the cold become you.... surround you... be a part of you. It's like sex.

i dont think you've had sex.
