SnoSki14
Just give me one more significant snow event this winter and it'll rank as a decent winter overall. I do wonder if we go into an extended hiatus or something even worse as the NAO continues negative but the EPO will flip positive as well and that normally correlates to a very mild look throughout the CONUS. MJO812
I remember when NYC had a flash freeze a couple of years ago. It was 66 in the morning with rain and then 30 in the afternoon with heavy snow. 4 inches of snow accumulated in the city . The forecast wasn't for accumulating snow at all. I can see that happening on Monday.

REDMK6GLI
One has to wonder when this pattern relaxes after this week, our next legitimate and likely last chance for any notable snow would be last 10 days of this month and into february. The cold will have to reload eventually for an extended period soon enough

REDMK6GLI
Anyone see the forecasted windchill for Winnipeg? -70. Yikes. Gotta say todays cold with no wind in my opinion was not that impressive. It just felt like run of the mill stagnant undisturbed cold air. I expected to be frozen outside but wasnt too bad. Even yesterday evening i shoveled some of my patio and backyard for my two dogs and was in a t-shirt and didnt mind it with no wind. Cant wait for the next snow threat which i have a feeling will probably come end of this month

SnoSki14
They often say -30 with no wind feels a lot more tolerable than -5, -10 with gusts of 35-40+. Just like in the summer when the heat is tolerable until you start increasing the dews and humidity.

+SNfreak21
Worst case scenario if we do not get above 25" for the season (doubt that), we would still get a nice front ended winter, last years winter was a back ended winter with Feb and March saving it. Steve D says -NAO regime will return after 1/25. ,hell even the greatest winters had thaws (Jan 1996, Jan 2010)
uncle W
if the January thaw doesn't come in January it will come in February...Some great years had two thaws...1995-96...third week in January and late February...1957-58 was similar...most years that were very cold between the 20th-26th had a big thaw the second half of February... shadowsintherain
Hey all, any thoughts on the flash freeze that could occur after our next arctic frontal passage? Looks like temps will be dropping like a rock after the rain in our area. That coupled with the melting snow looks to be a dangerous combination, no? I never encountered a sub-zero temp in my life during all my life in NYC.It was -20F at our vacation place in the Poconos Friday night...pretty uncomfortable but I walked a mile easily. As long as you keep moving and limit exposed skin you are fine. I threw a pot of water and it crystallized instantly at -20 or -21 degrees Fahrenheit. I went to college in VT so am used to it.
