OPC originates and issues marine warnings and forecasts, continually monitors and analyzes maritime data, and provides guidance of marine atmospheric variables for purposes of protection of life and property, safety at sea, and enhancement of economic opportunity. These products fulfill U.S. responsibilities with the World Meteorological Organization and Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) [International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1960 and 1974].

In emergency situations OPC acts as a backup to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the Honolulu National Weather Service Office taking over the marine functions. The Offices also act as backups to the OPC marine functions.

Very interesting. Thank you for the information. I have a feeling we could need these graphics when the next tropical cyclone threatens our area.

P.S. - What are your thoughts about this winter storm?

Big differences on the GFS and the Euro out at d10 thru 15 the euro sticks a huge ridge in the east in its ensembles while the

GFS keeps the trough here . Monday doesn't look good for us on either model

The GFS is closer but both to some degree rain here. One at 35 the other at 55

..joe cioffi is on wpix 11..he upped hid totals from last nite

was @4-6..now 8+..also said NWS may issue a blizzard watch..

even if you take some QPF away from the NAM ( which looks like that model has the best idea with the current IR ) you'll still have on either side of a foot of snow with over 40 mph gusts late Thursday afternoon into friday

I see that Dec. in CPK ended at +1.2degs., but with nearly twice the normal snowfall @ 8.6".  I would still characterize  the month as 'winter like' despite having been destroyed with a 4-day SE Ridge rampage.

One day of plus 30. Added a whole degree to the average. Skewed in my mind. Was cold as a whole

I really believe middlesex county should be under upton offices..or at least the northern part. Real random but with some storms the difference between upton and mount holly are crazy in this part. I usually swing towards what upton shows for Woodbridge township, considering the town is only a few miles south of Rahway in union county.

This a dilemma....Staten Island is across the river and has a different forecast, and truthfully they sometimes get unusually higher amounts, but the difference between Clark and Colonia? I generally go with the lower amts. because often that's closer to the mark. But Rahway measured 28 inches in the 2006 blizzard and we were hard pressed for 18 just a stone's throw away. Even the last storm, which many thought would be 4 or more, I measured2.5, 3.5 and 3.1 here in Colonia.
