H2O
It will be really interesting next week when the 95 east crowd is sitting with higher snow totals than the west crowd. I'm guessing it may need its own thread My money will still be on the western folk
WinterWxLuvr
This is getting kinda ridiculous for those of us within the beltways and east of 95. I started out just wanting one 6 inch snowfall. Now, I'll be happy if we get one 4 inch snowfall. It's sad that I'll be happy if I reach 15" for the year when people that are no more than 40 miles from here are already sitting on that number. Kinda hard to seperate snowfall and elevation. Canaan Valley is probably only 50 air miles west of me. They get just a bit more than I do.

Avdave
we do well at wind and cloud tracking too I don't think we get that here either. Sun tracking is where it's at.
WinterWxLuvr
That's a pretty bad comparison. In a way yes it is - upslope component. But in another way it isn't - expectations. No way people along and east of the fall line should expect snow totals that match areas to the west that have elevation. It would be like me expecting snow more in line with Canaan - delusional. So maybe the next time I see a post crying about higher snow to the west, I'll use your technique and just give it the ole

It's not like the difference between annual snowfall is 130" or more like between yours and that at Canaan. It's probably 10" at the most, and it's not at all delusional for someone east of the fall line to have more snow than those west of it. I hear what your saying, and I agree to a certain extent, but IMO using Canaan as the example weakens your argument.
mappy
Re: MG's new toy (wxstation) I'm jelly of her location meteorologically both on a county, town and backyard scale. She's gonna get some good obs. Ahh shucks, that's nice of you to say Install happening today. The fence post we discussed is too rotted to put the pole directly on so going to get a new 2x4 and put it in the ground next to the fence itself and then install from there. kurtstack
Good to see GFS/Euro/Euro Ensembles all providing snow to the snow starved at DCA 1/3. I think this is the one that ends the streak.

How are those things designed so that they give accurate temp readings sitting in full sunlight. Well the Vue as a basic professional station isn't designed to FULLY compensate for that. The higher end models are, which have little fans inside that actively pull in fresh air. The Vue station gets around this by having the station body itself pointing south and thus shading the sensor during peak solar time. The solar radiation shield (little accordion cylinder) does the rest.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1388259160.768664.jpg Man, I'm jealous. I might have to start saving up for one of those. I've been spending my winter break trying to catch up on the Leylands that I didn't get to last spring. Not that anyone will care, but I'm pretty proud of my work! Not nearly done yet, but here's the finished look. They're still about 11 feet high after cutting. This and a little more not shown left to do. It's hard to tell in the picture, but I'm taking off up to 6 feet. And this is what's done. I've got to finish the rest before we get the big storm next week. Maybe I can get Wxmeddler over here to help.
