FYI folks with WxBell subscriptions.  Latest word from Ryan Maue on what can/cannot be posted on here:  all "derived" products are ok.  In other words, things like snowfall maps (where WxBell does a calculation) are ok.  Raw data outputs (like 500mb heights) are not ok to post.

Only a couple weeks!

my advice: plan enough ahead for B's party. I was so stressed going into Saturday trying to get everything together. The party will be as much for you and wife as it will be for B herself. In the end, it worked out just fine but I was a bit overwhelmed because I didn't plan very well. December will always be a crazy month for us here, between our wedding anniversary, K's birthday and then Christmas all in a week period.

Plenty of talk about this being the best look for snow in three years. Then it gets followed by the discussion about how any good storm would wind up and go west.

Thread the needle time...

Yea, it's lol in some ways but to be fair, warning criteria is in on the table. Just no 09-10 events. I could see plenty of folks get their biggest snows in 3 years and have enough cold around to keep it for more than 15 minutes. Weenies could be happy area wide for once. Or we totally blow it because were pretty good at that

I'd be happy with 6" of all snow - I'm not asking for any huge event.

But I'd bet on sucking out on a relatively nice pattern.

a 6" all snowstorm is a big event and probably low probability in the upcoming pattern.....If you think a 6" all snow event is keeping your expectations in check that is a problem

Getting 6 inches in one single month for DCA is a challenge. Let's start there before we move on to one storm. Remove 09-10 from the equation and DCA only has 3 months in the last decade (counting this current season) with more than 6 inches of snowfall.

Knowing that snowcover days aren't really a reasonable expectation down here....I couldn't care less if the month or any month ends up +10 if my back yard gets the 7" of snow and 10+ days with snow on the ground again. In the end though Matt's call was a really strong one in particular the pattern recognition of variability....nice job! Now January needs 10" of snow ok

Yea, not impossible but probable....nah....2-4" on frozen ground and street stickage would be pretty awesome tho

It might be relatively big, but it's not huge (which is what I was responding to re: Bob mentioning 09-10). I'd be satisfied with 4" in my backyard, but not thrilled or anything. I have no expectations anyway, and even if I did, I wouldn't change them to try to make myself happy.

No it's a problem when someone continues to focus on every possible thing that could go wrong. It's a problem when any post with any hint of optimism is squashed by a post loaded with pessimism. That's a problem! Unfortunately some of us are glass half empty people. It is possible to be realistic without being pessimistic.
