SchaumburgStormer
The problem is that there was no salt on the roads to begin with.Misx that with drivers going too fast and you have accidents. More details. http://www.jrn.com/tmj4/news/Multiple-crash-scenes-reported-on-area-freeways-234963351.html Kind of sad. With this light snow, a quick shot of salt should be enough to keep the roads ok.
IWXwx
I can't believe the mess on 94 in WI. This proves it doesn't take a large amount of snow to cause havoc. Working in Emergency Management for years, I can tell you that most wrecks happen when a trace - 1 1/2" falls. When you get more that that, people finally start to slow down. Column finally saturated here about an hour ago. Started as large flakes and is now pixie dust with a trace on the ground.

They probably didn't hear the snippet on potential LES near the shoreline and slightly inland before the synoptic snow comes in later in the afternoon. hm8
Sitting at .2 and change Might be in for my first bust high of the season Does being off by tenths really count as a bust though?
cyclone77
Just did a quick measurement. 1.5" down so far, and still coming down nice. Dry slot almost here though.
Geos
Kind of sad. With this light snow, a quick shot of salt should be enough to keep the roads ok. I haven't seen one salt truck all day. Of course I haven't been out since noon either. Last full run of the HRRR.

Hoosier
Latest HRRR seems to have a decent handle working this area of snow north then a lull before redevelopment around 21z from southeast IA into northern IL. Seen nicely on mean RH loop too. RAP backs that up.

cyclone77
I'll call myself .500 on the season...nailed Chicago, busted low on MKE I don't know man. RAP and HRRR trends look pretty decent for Chicago from late afternoon through mid-evening. NAM and RAP both give the heart of Chicago 0.15-0.20" precip between 3pm and midnight. Think you still have a legit shot at 2". Looks like precip starting to quickly grow with this second surge of energy south of the QC at the moment. cyclone77
Just under 2" here, but the dry slot has arrived. Still snowing, but very light. The dry slot is quickly filling in south of the QC, so better snows may arrive here in another hour or so.

hawkeye_wx
I'm over 2 inches now. As the strong band on radar moved over CR large dendrites began falling at a good pace. We definitely have a shot at 3 inches.

Dubuque had about a half inch to an inch a very short time ago, I don't think they will be one of the jackpots. MSN may be though along with the MKE area, with that band moving north. Geos
Liking the way the radar looks to the WSW. One thing, it is not warming up today. Only the grass tips are visible now, so should be at 1.5" by now. Snow plow finally went past 20 minutes ago. 19z HRRR showing LEhS really getting going in Lake County at about 8pm.
