snowstormcanuck
The subtitle of the Dec. observation thread inspired me. Have your say. Winner gets my undying love and affection. Also feel free to discuss locations not mentioned in the poll. Space was limited. For the poll choices, votes must be cast by 11.59pm December 10th. Hoosier
I think it's probably going to come down to what happens in the days right before Christmas for many areas. IOW I doubt whatever falls in the next 5 days or so is going to survive all the way through the holiday.
michsnowfreak
You going with the traditional "1 inch or more of snow on the ground", or any snowfall? Good poll idea.

Chicago Storm
I'm trying to find the stats, but it feels like we haven't had a White Christmas in Chicago since 2007. 2010...with a snow depth of 5".
The_Global_Warmer
No for everyone but MKE. Snow will fall in every city between now and Christmas. But given how dry it is the lack of any foreseeable major event and this. It will probably depend on what happens the day or two before Christmas. OHweather
I haven't looked at much long range lately but the ensembles (Euro/GFS) are both hinting at a modest ridge off the west coast and east based Greenland block about 5 days before Christmas. So given we may have some modest cold air come down and factoring in climo a bit went CLE, DTW, MKE yes and ORD, STL and IND no.

michsnowfreak
7am Snow Depth Christmas morning: DTW - T CLE - 1 ORD - T IND - 0 MKE - 10 STL - 0 All areas had a nice to very nice snowpack AFTER this thread was created, but the weather the weekend before Christmas assured that Vespasion70 would be the winner. CLE just eeked out one with 0.8" Christmas Eve, and both Detroit and Chicago had snow fall on Christmas (Detroit had old patches as well) but only Milwaukee had the "perfect" White Christmas. michsnowfreak
Yeah technically Chicago did get a white Christmas. The snow just came a little later than ideal. True, records wise though they didnt. Heck, I can tell you that driving around the dusting of snow swirling on the streets and with many old snowbanks looking less dirty with a fresh coating of white, it sure had a more wintry feel to it than a Christmas like, say, 2005, which saw a pouring rain but still had enough snow on the ground to make it a White Christmas. Just how the world of weather stats work lol
