Ed Lizard
I wonder if the observer at IAH in December 2009 used proper techniques, and Houston did indeed receive a full inch of snow... They don't get much practice.
RU848789
I'll continue to do 6 hour measurements. Not sure why you would want a disconnect between coops/cocorahs sites and first order/airport sites. How ridiculous. in addition, changes like this simply invite changes in what gets reported that don't truly reflect changes in actual snowfall. Even if the current (and I mean the system up until this winter) system isn't "perfect" I'd rather, for consistency sake, stick with what we have. I certainly wouldn't change the data collection method without a fair amount of "proof" that the current way is unacceptable in some way.
famartin
Bump... Section 3.1.3 will apply to many in this coming storm, with the snow->ice/rain->snow changeovers.
MN Transplant
I was thinking about this last night because of the two little events here in the DC area. With this method, there will be additional liquid precip recorded without additional snowfall. This is just such a horrible way of doing things.
