40/70 Benchmark
I know that Will has several seasonal snowfall maps, but felt it prudent to start a thread where a denser set of obs chronicling the past several seasons worth of snowfall data could be compiled in order to provide some seasonal perspective for our newer posters, as we approach go-time this season. It's been a great seven years.....hopefully many more to come; awesome weather, many new friends, and a wealth of new, ever expanding knowledge. Perhaps Will could throw his maps in for $hits and giggles. Here at KGAY, AKA Wilmington, MA, the following is a list of my first seven seasons on the boards, along with some highlights: '06-'07- 34.5" '07-'08- 73" '08-'09- 82.5" '09-10- 54.5" '10-'11- 94" (6th greatest of all-time) '11-'12- 22" (3rd most futile of all-time) '12-'13- 79.5" Snowiest Months: 1) January 2011- 48" (3rd greatest of all-time) 2) February 2013- 34" 3) December 2007- 33.5" 4) December 2008- 31" 5) March 2013-27" Largest Events: 1) February 8-9, 2013- 27" (Tied for 3rd largest in recorded history) *2) December 19-21, 2008- 21" 3) January 12, 2011- 20.5" 4) March 7-8, 2013- 15" 5) Feb 1-2, 2011- 13.5" Greatest Depth of 33" (2nd greatest in recorded history) observed on the morning of February 2, 2011 57 Season running mean=62.9" 7 Season running mean on the boards=62.9" *Denotes two distinct systems in rapid succession. My snowfall averages about 2" below that of the Farmington coop, and theirs 1998-99 thru 2012-13 has run within less than an inch of their 120-yr avg. However, for the 7 winters shown above, my avg is 94.1", which is 108% of the 15-yr avg at my place, with 5 of 7 winters above the bar. Using dendrite's 10-yr criterion (which brings in 05-06's 52.8"), the avg drops to 88.6", or just 1.5" above my longer avg
