wisconsinwx
lol at Stebo trolling the complaint thread. EDIT: Just read the whole thing and wisconsinwx is even worse. Sparty complaining about rain is January is legit, no matter how good their winter has been so far. Come on IWXwx, we get a rainstorm at some point every single January, and SE Michigan that would be even moreso. It's part of climo, and he did get to enjoy a foot plus snowpack for a week. They also get to escape the worst of the cold in SE Michigan, which is a good thing. The point I was making is SE Michigan/NE Illinois were in as good a run as possible in recent years, and here I'm seeing the last three posts before my initial one by posters in SE Michigan. We've had some Januarys with no rain or darn close to it here and you guys farther north would probably have even more of those.

mississaugasnow
Im actually a bit excited for temperatures in the upper 40s this weekend. The snow I have outside now has run its course. 3 days in the 40s with at least one in the uppers 40s should do a bit of damage
BowMeHunter
Rains or at least brief torches in January (guessing) probably have happened 90% of winters on record here.. few times we haven't had much rains and or big torches in to the mid 40's and 50's was probably due to a dry as a popcorn fart month and that's even worse than a volatile up and down pattern. Up here still in the tropics you normally gotta play with fire and with that comes the likelihood at least a few storms won't fall as all snow to get the big winters. This start to winter has been about as good as it gets here for continuous snow cover which I'm all about over being a snowstorm snob. Not much to complain about for a large majority of this sub-forum. It's had decent to excellent amount of snow cover days and enough storms for the size queen/kings. Lots of winter left even if we have a lull and a lot of areas with already huge snow surpluses are probably going to get at least another 20-30" - some more and some possibly will remain stuck in the few screw holes and will have the right to remain in the complaint thread. Perfect time to recharge the human battery and let mother nature do the same to recharge the excellent pattern start of this winter.

I enjoy the actual time the snow is falling more than how much snow is on the ground. Actually looking forward to some warmth this weekend as that cold took everything out of me. Snowing here constantly since Sunday and wouldn't have it any other way in January! Suck it up cupcakes! Yeah I love the warmth, and real warmth. Give me 80s, 90s and sunny any day. Once it hits mid March I've had enough of winter and want it to go right to summer. I live 5-10 minutes from the beach and go there as often as I can in summer. Lake Erie is relatively shallow and warms considerable very fast. In summer water temperatures are usually around 75-80. The lake shadow in summer kills nearly all convection as well. True severe weather is very rare here unfortunately, I love thunderstorms. =( We do get some insane wind events here when the wind is out of the SW going up the entire fetch of the Lake. My dream is to go chase a Hurricane or Tornado, I am just a huge weather enthusiast overall. You'll see me in nearly every forum in which a severe weather event is occurring. I still believe an event like that will never happen again in my lifetime. The closest I got to a tornado was a funnel cloud near Cheektowaga. I chase any event within 3 hours of the area if a Tornado is likely. (If I have free time)

Summer is Chilly here til July and then can still be chilly at times. Lake shadow is ever present and it actually rains very little in the Summer. Warm days heat up til about 2 when lake breeze kicks in and a cool, breezy afternoon ensues. Summers N of 45 are great!

Yeah, I would hate that. I love the heat, and it gets really hot around here in summer, also extremely humid. I love going for drives at night with the window down with temps in the mid 70s with mid 60 dewpoints. Nothing beats that! =)

(If I have free time) Severe sucks outside the plains, tornados aren't visible unless they are right on top of you, the havoc and destruction they wreak isn't worth the 10 minutes of excitement a severe storm brings. chances14
I have nothing to complain about here even with the impending January thaw coming up. Getting 2 once in a decade type storms for mby in a span of 3 weeks is pretty remarkable.

Yeah I much LOVE long duration T-storms with lots of crashing lightning, heavy rains (of course I don't have any flood concerns IMBY) and some pea sized hail. Strong winds and tornados and large hail ... no thanks I don't need the damage and clean up!!! Funny how I love t-storms but don't care for significant severe ones. Chicago WX
The thaw coming for here sucks, but it will have its benefits...namely roads becoming glacier free again. But thaws are a way of life in central Indiana winters...even the big dog winters had them. Ho hum. Thinking back to last March for LAF: we've had four 6"+ snowstorms (nearly five)...a big flood event in April...a tame summer with temps...a historic tornado outbreak in November...snowy December...one of the most impactful winter storms in years this January...almost a foot and a half of snow combined in the first 5 days of the month...already have surpassed normal season snowfall for 2013-14...double digit below zero temps. I have nothing to complain about. It's been a lot of fun for LAF. It's probably time for some boring weather here, for awhile...

But yeah...for the past 3 days I've taken a sigh of relief whenever I get home from work. Some of these jacka$$e$ shouldn't be on ice/snow covered roads, let alone dry ones. Morons. I did think it was overall improved on the main thoroughfares this evening, but side streets remain hideous.

Someone in front of me spun out which caused me to apply the brake and start to fishtail a bit. Then the guy behind me couldn't stop in time and he swiped me and also went on to hit the woman who had spun out in front of me. Fortunately no injures and the damage was minor all around. Well there's a sweeping generalization. Sure in the Ozarks and Dixie Alley this applies more often, but I find people in the GL region seem to get reasonable enough views of tornadoes most of the time (aside from a QLCS where the situation is the same anywhere you go). Some of the bigger tornadoes in the GL region were pretty visible. Oakfield, WI and Xenia, OH were both highly visible from everything that I have seen and read. Plainfield wasn't visible, but that was a result of the environment it was in. Kind of like Joplin in that sense.
