woke up to a sticky summer morning. Near 70 at the airport but I'm a fidget 66 at the house. The big question for me is will I turn on the AC three days before Christmas. Amazing...in a sad way.

I already did. It was 70 when I was going to bed last night at midnight, and that's just way too hot for a winter's eve. Now with the DP in the 70s the storms today will be strong.

Impressive thunder to the W of Atlanta, too.

15-30 minutes ago we had several booms of the type that shake everything in the house, then continue thumping some more for what seems like minutes, with a long decay. The radar didn't show much overhead or nearby, and we were getting only pitter-pattery light rain. The heaviest stuff is to the SSE, passing over FFC.

There's some light rain now.  From the looks of things outside, I've slept through a good deal of rain.

Anyone here from FFC, Fayetteville, Newnan?

The rain has already started to lighten up as the push east has slowed down, at least here in the Atlanta area. I'm seeing lower intensities as it slowly pushes east, and hopefully stops over me. Currently sitting at 57.7F. I had a high of 68.2F at midnight and it has fallen ever since.

It appears that the lowest for today so far at Savannah is 70 (though there's a small chance it is 69). With a forecasted high in the low 80's, the 70 has a good chance to hold up.  If it does, it would be the warmest low temp. at Savannah on record for any date in Dec.-March going back at least to when records started in 1874!! Exciting times in wx history!

Our low was 70 as well. We are up to 79. Most likely won't get as warm as yesterday due to the thick cloud cover.

I have an inch of rain as of noon, pouring now,  and way more coming per the prognostics.   Didn't get all that hot yesterday, isn't all that hot today.  It's going to be below freezing Xmas eve, and day, nights.  No complaints here.  Just give me some gulf lows after Christmas and we're sailing real fast down steep hills :)  T

The Panther game is going to get hammered starting around halftime.  Better score now boys.

EDIT:  It looks like the Saints are aware of what's coming.  They just scored a field goal and followed it by recovering a onside kick and are already inside the Panther 5.

2 inches of rain here just west of Asheville since it started this morning and is still coming down hard.  How I wish this would have been snow.  We would of had a white Christmas.  With all this moisture we probably would of had to much snow had it been cold enough.  Hoping for around the first of the year for some fun and games.   :sled:

Yep I hope the Panthers hurry and score because once this rain hits Charlotte it will be hard to score.  Saints very smart in what they're thinking.

With a reading of 81° today, Norfolk established a new December high temperature record. The old monthly record was 80°, which was reached on December 4, 1978 and tied on December 3, 1991.

Don,

You are one of my most trusted resources on here.  Do you have any comment on the meteorological mechanism responsible for this impressive warmth.  With no blocking, it is quite common for powerful storms to pull lots of warmth up the east coast, but what is different about this situation?
