From I-75 I saw a fireball quickly falling from the sky ~30 miles south of Atlanta (probably not real far from Tony's abode) as I was headed toward Atlanta around 8:45-9:00 PM this evening. It didn't seem to be too many miles away, but I guess it could have been deceiving. Is there a meteor shower tonight by any chance?

Could have been apart of this event.

Went from 49 to 63 in just over a hour and a half, local NWS calling for a high of 80 here Sunday......3 days before Christmas. Lows are going to be mid 60's this weekend that is warmer than our average highs for those dates by 10-15 degrees....we are gonna spend a couple of days at around +25-30 departures from normal gonna make it real hard to not have a +5 or better departure for here in Dec.

Funny. When you step out in shorts and its freezing, you still got to act like you did it on purpose! Tomorrow could make it to the 70s I suppose. But the more interesting thing to watch will be the heavy rains. I don't think severe will be a problem tomorrow in our neck of the woods, but 2-4 inches of rain by Monday is a good possibility! Currently 55.4

At noon, Sav. already made a new record high of 80! Will it make it to the alltime Dec record of 83, tied earlier this month? Well, then it was 81 vs 80 and winds were warmer sw vs today's s. Skies are about same (sunny). This argues it will stop just shy of 83. We'll see. I think there's still a shot at 83 though under 50% based on the comparison to earlier this month.

------------------------------------------------

Edit: Savannah hit 81 (new record high by 2) but then fell back to 80 at 1 PM. I now think the chance to reach 83 is small as temp.'s seem to be maxing even with sunshine. With S winds, there's too much cool water nearby.

Waycross is at 82 at 1 PM though it has warmed only 1 since 11 AM. So, I doubt their high ends warmer than 83-4 with clouds not helping.

KATL is up to 71 at 1 PM! Once winds shifted from light SE to much higher warm S winds, it has zoomed there 11 since just 11 AM despite a lot of clouds. FFC only had their high near 69. Their record is only 73, which obviously is in danger with this fast warming. It is 76 to the south at Macon, which itself has warmed from 74 at noon. What an interesting day in GA!

From Don S.:

"At Savannah, the temperature had reached 81° as of 1 pm. That was the 5th time this month Savannah has had a temperature of 80° or above. Only 1931 with 6 such dates has had more."

I didn't know that.  Tomorrow, Sav. may get its record tieing 6th. In contrast, there were only two in Nov.

Looks like Sav., indeed, may have maxed out at 81 with it down to 79 at 2 PM. ATL down to 70 at 2 PM.

CHS also had had 5 80's this month!

Wow! Is 86 your backyard reading? I see "only" 84 at the official station at 3 PM.

Yes. TWC has 86. Weatherbug Elite had 86. Also wunderground had it.

Scroll down and check out the state highs and you will see the 86.

EDIT: We are down to 84 now but we indeed did peak at 86.
