Up here, where we frown on Alligator poking, we had two hot days, where I ran the fan, but it barely got into the 70's, so that was just me having trouble adjusting to the heat after such a cold fall.  Then the fan went off, the windows came down and the wood stove fired up.  That's the only torch I've seen.  Pretty normal fall so far,  comparing favourably with the old days, when it actually was winter and fall, not this namby pamby stuff that passes for winter and fall these days.  T

Good god o mighty. Someone bring in a met to explain how the hell that is not a torch.

Looking at the map Weather NC posted, it dawns on me that maybe you need to understand geography.  Firstly, on that map, Spartanburg County is in +4 shaded territory.  I would strongly argue - based on the recordings I've already mentioned - for western Sptbg Cty (Lyman), that +3 would be more accurate for the first 10 days (but I'll give you 4 anyway). That's WITH those to warm-ish days skewing it.

Secondly, you are once again generalizing.  Stop it.

That's a blizzard right, I have seen a few pop up on Craigslist, mainly in the NE and Western US, none locally.  Their older units are supposedly better than the newer stuff they are putting out ~ 1800.  I already have a decent pressure washer, 3.2 gpm gas, and Craftsman air compressor, ~ 9 CFM, missing link is the gun.  Also have a liquid cooled Honda GX360 that I rebuilt and is ready to go, thought about engineering an all in one which is what I really want, 14hp would do it, but linking that to two different pumps, yeah, outside of my knowledge base atm.  Been looking at Snow@Home's SG6, really all I need.  Unsure of the quality, and CFM drop I would get from the compressor on a 50-75ft hose.  Temps here too are an issue, there will be a few nights when I can run for 8 hours, although 40hrs a season seems to be the max for good snow making, maybe 60-80 in a cold year.

Yea the older ones were the work horses, mine is 12 years old a runs like a top. I had their next version after that and it was a POS. I've been looking at the SG7 but man that's a chunk of change. The 7.5 gpm is the $$$$. I run 2 machines so I can pile it on deep in 3 good nights.

It has -4--8 across most of SC,NC instead of +4-+8 across. Wait let me guess, your backyard was -24 and ncweather was -56??

I have no idea.  What does it matter?  You just posted the entire month of Feb 2010.  Not even close to comparable to 9 days.

And the map above (from WeatherNC) has most of SC in +4 except coastal areas - stop exaggerating.  It was two days of warmth.  Just get over it.

We don't have Alligators around here so we have to use possums for poking. Probably not as dangerous. They just kind of lay there and hiss.

I can't believe I'm reading this. I was online last night for over an hour googling how to make snow with a pressure washer. The weather conditions (wet bulb, dew point)are the no brainier. It's using my pressure washer with and air compressor. Obviously if you have access to a retaining pond or even outdoor pool the water will be already cooled as opposed to well or city water and should net better results. The more air pressure verse water pressure at discharge is where the trick for success is. Most ski slopes use retaining pond water. Thinking that if you have access to a creek or pond the silty water will produce bigger flakes compared to pure water.

I first came off my well, and that sucked I only got 4.5 gpm from the well and it would have to be at 25f or below. I had a creek next to my house so I built a small pump station to feed the 2 units. The creek water would avg 37 degrees and that made all the difference. I could blow at 31/30f I miss my old yard

November 2012 most of the SE was below average nearly the entire month. This November we had a strong shot of cold here and there.

You tell me - based on your favorite form of data:

November 2013

I'm pretty sure 2013 was a colder November as a whole (not 9 days)

Clearly 2012. The legend on the side is different.

Spartanburg County in 2012 sits in -2.

2013 sits in -4.

Are you starting to get the point that you cannot generalize an entire region?  My temp right now is dropping through the 30's and you're sitting at 55.  Apples and oranges.

You can continue to scream torch with a few others all you want - I'm done.  Most of us agree this has been as normal start to the season as we've had in a long time.  No one in the SE get's away without a few scattered days of warm weather.  This isn't Chi-town bro.

Thats what I say... the general assumption he was making is generally weak. That so call torch happened over a few days with + anomalies over a week time span.Still far far far from a so called torch. But by the the time all said and done once averaged up it will be still be below normal.

My propery line runs to a creek,  :pimp: , minor tributary in to the Tar River, about 150-200' to bring it up from the back...

Folks,

I have just survived the first 11 days of December, 2013, in Savannah at about 8 F above normal, including a tie of the all-time Dec. high of 83 and four highs of 80+ without incident. I know it doesn't seem possible, but It really is survivable, folks, it really is....well, if you are strong enough mentally. Above normal periods during winter aren't nearly as evil as they are made out to be. I think I'm going to be ok. Now, if I can just get rid of this nasty cold that I caught.  ;)
