Ian
You guys are crazy. Wind is the best. Hot wind, Cold Wind, Dusty wind, Snowy wind, I'll take it all. The only wind I don't do is wind driven rain unless I know it's coming OR I know I'm just going to be soaked anyway. You missed the only good one... swirly wind. Jebman
Today I discovered three piles of sleet/snow that survived the torch. They are 7 inches tall. They are in the lot to the south of the Rec Center in Dale City. I can't believe they made it through the 60s and 70s and 63 degree dewpoints, but they did. They were protected by trees. Swiscaster
I assume you shoveled those piles. They needed it. Could be the last snow to shovel for a while, too.

I had a few remants here as late as Sunday morning...or course it is gone now. Agree on the outlook...nothing points towards accumulating snow anytime soon. The one where he talks about the pattern being conducive to a 30-40% chance of 1 inch of snow, with multiple caveats and asteriks on why even those odds may be too high? wxmeddler
You missed the only good one... swirly wind. Well in theory the wind is always swirling. It's just the wind that swirls in the counter-clockwise direction that matters

For a setup that is 8-14 days away, those aren't bad odds if you like snow.

He's a self-proclaimed low skilled forecaster in the medium to long range, which is a very humble and respectable position to take given his vast depth and subject-matter-expertise. He knows better than to dabble in even semi-certainty in 7+ days out....thus the caveats. Anyone reading the CWG piece and taking away high confidence in a pending snowfall is missing the gist of the analysis.
jonjon
Working on squeezing out a white Christmas here. 1/2" of snow and coming down steadily. I wasn't looking forward to explaining to my boys how Santa gets around with no snow on the ground! So just how many years have you NOT had a white Christmas up there? I'd say few. My grandparents lived in either Rainelle (2500) or Quinwood (3200) in western Greenbrier county so I generally had white ones growing up just by 'going over the river and through the woods' so to speak. wxdude64
Just realized that it is the 30th anniversary of the bitter cold Christmas of 1983. I had a low of -11 and a high of 4 that day. EDIT: And I just looked out the window as I sent...flakes! Not sure what has happened up at airport, think they are down, have same report since 12:30 yesterday afternoon. I'd say we're around 75% for having a white Christmas. We're definitely not immune from torches (like the one that just blew away our winter-wonderland). But fortunately we usually cash in on a little whiteness when the cold comes back.

snowfan
Most western MD webcams west of Cumberland are showing light accums. Speaking of Cumberland.....what a terrible spot for snow. Too far west for most coastals. Too far east for upslope. Must be agonizing if you're a snow lover living there. At least you're only a short drive over keyser's ridge to MA snow heaven.
