MaineJayhawk
Does dry slot go as far north as jackson,nh? Wondering when models shut precip off there I'm interested as well ... would like to see if I can make it up there by noon or something for a quick 'shoe thru snow-laden trees. powderfreak
Man the 18z NAM looks good, lol. That band comes to a halt in northern VT and southern QC. Hopefully we can get that to slow a little more and curl through the area.
ctsnowstorm628
18z NAM within 24 hours is solid right?
dendrite
Looks like it'll stall/pivot/rot/whatever north of the border to me, but it'll be +SN for a while there regardless.
eyewall
Is anybody concerned about a dry air bust?
CardinalWinds
Never had mod-heavy prolonged snow below 10F before. Should be fun Love the snow when it's below 20°. I'm waiting for the day I can clear the driveway with my hurricane producing leaf blower instead of the snow blower
CardinalWinds
Is anybody concerned about a dry air bust? I was thinking about this. It's 3/-11 here now. How much of our QPF gets eaten up saturating the air?
eyewall
BTV didn't make too many adjustments to their map issued at 3:40pm: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/btv/html/StormTotalSnow/StormTotalSnow.shtml
ono
Snow accumulated by 9am this morn in southern CT. Just picked up in Amherst, ma around 4 pm. Dry air took some time to beat back. 16f and going steady. Seems to be picking up with saturation and per radar.
powderfreak
Is anybody concerned about a dry air bust? Not a bust, but its a reason why I've kept my expectations in check around 6" in town...8-10" at the mountain. The mountains will saturate quicker (obviously) and in fact dry air was a reason why the summit picked up 7" yesterday with only 3" at the base. Temperatures were so cold and the low levels so dry that it was snowing twice as hard just 2,000ft up in the atmosphere.

Wishful thinking but I think that lifts through into southern QC. Looks like prolonged light snow tomorrow though after the main band moves north. OceanStWx
Springfield and Warner RWIS sites too now. It's coming. Our local WRF rips the coastal front right to your doorstep by 12z. Of course most of the heavy lifting with snowfall is done by then. Has CON at like 16, and Derry at 29. Quite the boundary.
mahk_webstah
Springfield and Warner RWIS sites too now. It's coming. Just started here. light snow. what an awesome day. a high of 14....we were out on our land clearing brush for 5 hours. It was awesome, 2 inch snow cover, lowering cloud deck, really stark landscape. Now in front of the fire. I love NNE.

dendrite
Snow at PSM, Westmoreland, Derry, and Salem. btw Chris...not sure if you've seen before (or if Mike ever told you), but I have a heated leaf wetness sensor that functions as a precip detection sensor. Anything over 0 means there's precip. The only possible false alarms would be BLSN or the rare bird droppings. http://www.newenglandwx.com/cam/weather.htm It's "Leaf Wetness 1" on the charts. http://www.newenglandwx.com/cam/graphs.htm http://www.newenglandwx.com/cam/cam.htm My IR light is in beast mode reflecting off of the snowcover. powderfreak
We have been trying some cloud seeding today at the mountain, but the inversion was stopping the vertical extent of the moisture, lol. Snowmaking operations from mid-mountain and lower have left a day-long (the moisture pool is still building along the east slope of Mansfield) cloud bank of ice crystals and droplets. Maybe this will lead to some seeder feeder or at least help moisten the low levels? This whole cloud is caused by snowmaking... over 7,000 gallons of water per minute (almost a half million gallons per hour) getting pumped into the atmosphere on the east side of Mansfield. Every little bit of moisture helps, right? lol.
OceanStWx
Isn't it good to have the coastal front 30 miles or so to one's southeast? Obviously you want it to the SE, just how far depends on the storm. Sometimes the best lift is just to the cool side, sometimes it slopes a little more to the cold side. J.Spin
There isn’t much change in the latest BTV storm total snow forecast map from the previous version, so it seems like the projections have stabilized in this area: Our point forecast did get another bump though, and it’s totaling in the 8” - 16” range now, with the hourly weather plot data suggesting 11”. powderfreak
Just took the dog out 10 minutes ago and found it's snowing already...they are the smallest flakes you'll ever see (probably dry air at SFC), but there was a thin coating starting on the cars. I can't believe how cold it is out. Low to mid single digits still here east of the Spine in Vermont. It'll be interesting to see how much the west slopes warm up with a downsloping flow at SSE-ESE at H85. I've also seen MPV get a bit warmer and windier in these situations than here just a few miles SW.
J.Spin
Nice. This is going to be like watching paint dry up here this evening, lol. I saw your comment PF, so I wasn’t even paying attention to what was going on our there, but my wife got back from picking up some pizza and said it has been snowing since before she left the house at ~6:15 PM. Anyway, the snow started some time before that point, but as you said, it’s just been very light so far. I’ve set up the J&E Productions Web Cam and a couple of my measurement blocks, and I’ll leave that in place for the duration of the event, so anyone that wants to get a feel for what’s going on here in the Waterbury area during the storm can use that text link above.
