My pond froze over solid last night. Probably a couple inches of ice already has formed.

The snow tomorrow will stick instantly. Roads are free of salt too, so driving will likely be slick at the beginning of this event moving in.

Otherwise the sun is shining today.  :sun:

kids can start skating on the backyard rink already!  maybe a few days for me.....but better than still having the geese swimming in it through Christmas like the last 2 years

Nice.  :)  Kids can enjoy what a typical December should bring. Of course we just need snow now, but the intense w/o the snow hardens up the ice better.

Yeah those geese are gone now. Every body of water I passed by this morning was frozen over.

Edit: That's a cool looking dog you have! Never seen one like that.

We've had a couple inches of fluffy lake effect snow in this area today. I'm soooo glad the ground will be white through this cold spell. Amazingly, five minutes to the west, right on the lakeshore, there is barely a trace.

Same thing here.  About 2 inches overnight and if you go west towards Holland it turns into just a dusting.

At a glance it looks to be a forecast from January. Impressive winter like weather, with some snow and time perhaps some more records will fall.

records? The records for snow there are probably Valdez Alaska like.

Thanks Hoosier!!!

Tuesday morning looks frigid....

A little nugget from Skilling also....

Cold weather’s hit early and hard across the Midwest this year. Friday’s 21-degree high was Chicago’s coldest daytime temp since a 20-degree max occurred nearly 10 months ago on Feb. 16. And similarly cold temperatures are predicted Saturday.

Chilly weather of comparable intensity waited another 6 weeks to reach Chicago a year ago, not making its way into the city until a 15-degree high was recorded Jan. 21.

We have fresh snow cover now, but it looks like southerly winds kick in pretty quickly tomorrow night, so doubt we get to finally take advantage of snow cover temp wise.  If we would have had this snow cover a few nights ago we would have probably would have settled to -5 or so, instead of 2 above.

Wednesday night I have a point of +2°. That could be the night we go below 0°.

30% chance of snow for Tuesday night here. GFS favors your area for about 0.10".

Sitting at 18° here.

I think since this winter is getting off to a better start, I'm going to start noting areas that have had a 6" snowfall (maybe a 3" map too). Will see where we are in the end.

Maybe not the entire sub forum will have one, but you never know.
