cyclone77
A few sites in North Dakota still near -30. Several sites in Minnesota at or below -20 as we enter late morning. Temps here barely budging.

Temps here barely budging. Too cold, lol. Temp actually went down a little here. 22° to 16° in the last 4 hours.
roardog
-12 to -15 departures for the month in the Northern Plains is pretty insane. Those inland lakes around there must have some real thick ice on them for December.
Stebo
Those inland lakes around there must have some real thick ice on them for December. Yeah I bet, hell I can't believe how much ice there is on the Great Lakes this early in the season, it has been several years since we had ice this early on the lakes. Gilbertfly
hitting -12F without a legit snowpack for hundreds of miles was my weather highlight of the month...not so much from a "something I love" standpoint...but just something that I know I prolly won't see happen to often again (let alone in the first weeks of December)
weatherbo
APX radar is down and may be until after the holiday, but it hasn't really quit snowing since the storm yesterday. only about an inch so far today but sure adds to the mood of Christmas. snow on my front deck is well past my knees at this point and almost up to the top railing that is 3'. love it!! madwx
received about 0.4" of snow overnight. With the sunshine the landscape looks very bright and sparkly. Perfect for the days before Christmas.
Geos
The little bit of snow this morning was 25:1+ ratio. Down to 12° now at 1 pm. Nice to have the sun out. Nice band of snow affecting WC MI.
Chinook
What cold December? Not for the Ohio Valley ... month.tdev.png Here's the national picture. Temperatures have moderated in parts of the West.
cyclone77
Cedar Rapids hasn't even made it above zero yet during the day. They probably were above zero just after midnight. We actually hit 16 at midnight, but 4 is the high so far during the day. Some spots in Iowa could make a run at -20 tonight.
Geos
Down to 11° now. HRRR showing a LES band scraping the western shoreline late tonight.
hawkeye_wx
This was Cedar Rapids' coldest day in a few years. Even sites in the city only hit about 1F.
Geos
Down to 8° here. The mid 30s seem like a distant memory already. 4km NAM showing snow showers pushing off the lake later on.
cyclone77
DVN has our point only at -9, with -13 at DVN and -18 at Cedar Rapids. Really not seeing why we couldn't get as cold as areas further west, so wouldn't be surprised to see that adjusted lower later tonight. High pressure ridge will be very close by daybreak. harrisale
Getting really chilly out now, dropped 5F degrees in the last 2-3 hours. Clear skies and a setting sun made for some beautiful ice shots.
Brewers
Temps are tricky tonight...we should drop pretty quickly tonight before clouds start filling back in and then see some clearing before day break as sfc/850 ridging moves and low level winds turn NW. michsnowfreak
Had off and on snow showers here and one earlier briefly dusted us with 0.1". Hoping for a fresh dusting once the LES sinks south overnight but wont hold my breath. Christmas snow chances looking a bit better though.

Brewers
Lake effect snow band over lake Michigan is starting to move west...MKX vertical wind profiles do show NNE winds above 4000ft and latest RAP sounding shows winds veering NNE between 2000-4000ft over the next few hours so I guess there's a chance this scrapes the lakeshore
Geos
Flirting with 0° here. But clouds are on the move southward. Looks like LES is going to drift into the WI shoreline soon.
Hoar_Frost
Have gone sub-zero here in the last 20 minutes. First time I've experienced a temperature below 0F since 10 February 2011 -- mild winter of 2011-12, and I spent the winter of 2012-13 largely in central Pennsylvania, where it's generally milder. hawkeye_wx
CR airport was down to -7, but an isolated puff of clouds moved over the city and the temp rose to -1 at 9pm. It'll be interesting to see how fast the temp drops again once the clouds move out.
Geos
-2F here (in Geneva). Steady in the last hour or so. Haha, lovely Midwest weather isn't it. Same here, but clouds and snow showers are southbound out of WI. Should "warm" up a bit soon.

Indeed. People out east would be totally up in arms if it got below zero. They were last January when it got down into the upper single digits for a couple of nights in a row. Seems like it's holding pretty clear for now out here away from the lake. If that continues, should be able to make it to -7F or so, I'd say. cyclone77
Been hovering close to -4 for a few hours. Batch of clouds rotated in associated with that shearing out upper low to the north. Should clear out later on. Winds over the eastern half of IA are still in the 5 to 10mph range, so temps haven't dropped all too far yet. However later tonight the ridge moves in and kills the winds to near calm. Already happening over western Iowa, where a few locations are at -17, with -18 in Clarinda.
