Guest user123
Man Euro did a complete 180..Talk about hammer time again days 9-10. can't touch this Can you divulge on that a bit? What's it alluding to?
Baroclinic Zone
Looks like E-Wall added a new day 8-10 mean link. Now has the GGEM along with the GFS and Euro. http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~fxg1/CMCNA_12z/hgtcomp.html

Of course the usual long term caveats apply, but nice to see and lends some support to those who have expressed the cold up north is do expansive it will ooze south

Tropopause_Fold
Are we looking at the same thing? It's totally different than 00z it's got a transient cold shot in NE canada which i think makes it appear "better". but the theme is the same as 00z, imo. not saying it's right or wrong...but it is still opening up the conus to pac flow. Baroclinic Zone
Are we looking at the same thing? It's totally different than 00z No, it's really not all that different from 00z. Garbage look. PAC air flooding the conus.
Ginx snewx
Are we looking at the same thing? It's totally different than 00z yes it is 850s are -5 and colder air is very close. I am not going to say what the next frame would look like because I do not know.

Ginx snewx
Don't look much different to me. test8.giftest9.gif huge difference in PV location, hints of an East based NAO like the GEFS has , GEFS keep heights low in the NE. so far this year GEFS has done a better job 11-15, we will see but every day the Euro has been pushing it back. ORH_wxman
Euro ensembles look a little colder for us in the long range...they try to keep some troughing over SE Canada and into our region. That would be one way to stay on the colder side of things even though the N plains and N rockies would be warming up.

CoastalWx
Euro ensembles also show a brief relax like the op run, but then improve a bit after. Meanwhile, the EPO is night and day on the EC ensembles and GFS ensembles. However the EC tries to build a ridge just off the west coast towards the end of the run. It's like it doesn't know what to do. The end result actually isn't all that different..but the GEFS and Canadian ensembles are certainly different looking. CoastalWx
I don't see a hammer time after next week...instead we are pole dancing with a gradient pattern..but it's gonna be active for a time. The problem is that the srfc temp anomalies and H5 heights are going to be out of whack on the cold side of the boundary. As long as the Pacific jet is quiet, this will continue to be a pattern that bleeds cold south.

Noone is stopping anyone from posting about warmth or mild or cold and snow. It's ok to post anything anyone wants as long as it's kept clean. I have been forced to change my ways on here by the deep deep powers..so I will firmly and perhaps a touch violently disagree with that ascertation that 90% of my posts are to get "rises" out of people. If my posts create "rises" then that is on the individuals(s) getting risen. I've never understood why I seem to incite these internet weather riots. I'm here as we all are ..for the love of weather. Plain and simple. Happy holidays to you and your young family.

Enjoy the snow, though in the next few days. Cover the grass up. Ride the ECM.

jamesnichols1989
It seems like the positioning of the PV is determining our next snow threat after Dec 9th threat. Whether or not it stays in position near or over the Hudson Bay will determine how far out to sea our next system gets around the 11-12th time period, I'll check for an actual date this happens, but right now the GFS is out to sea with it, but there is still time for corrections west. CoastalWx
Weeklies started to get a little ugly. Weeks 3 and 4 above normal at the surface..decently above week 3. Looks like they try to bring the PV out of Hudson Bay while the PAC jet takes over. It's almost following the 50mb vortex as that retreats NW. They do have some ridging pushing into srn AK, which will try to not furnace the entire country..but just saying what it shows. Hopefully that ridging in AK is strong enough...we need the PV near Hudson Bay too.

Scott, it appears energy vorticity max tries to round the base of the PV trough over Hudson Bay and moves into the US through MN and through the Great Lakes into the Northeast. Right now the GFS shows it as a frontal low developing along the baroclinic zone just off the East Coast, however the frontal low really begins to develop out to sea. What are your thoughts on the 18z GFS so far?
