mattie g
FWIW, I left Columbia at 9:45 and it was 47 on my car thermometer. Car read 35 as I pulled into home here in Frederick at 10:30. The temps would drop in 2-3 degree chunks every 5-8 minutes as I went west on 70. Pretty cool. Staying in one place here in Burke, and it's doing the same thing! winterymix
check out the new GFS nice blob of snow appears over us at 24 hr. panel Yeah, that is a nice look, except for those caught in rush hour traffic. Not sure if the cold air advection is coming in faster than modeled. It seems that IAD dropped two degrees.

mattie g
Got up to 42 about an hour (maybe a little less) ago. Down to 39 now. Another 2.5* drop in 20 minutes. 36.5. It's is actually pretty cool watching the temp swings.
Ian
10m winds from GREarth Mesoanalysis Here's a GIF - cool thx. it's probably building the grid off the station points. DCA is still west of the front at the sfc I believe based on winds -- tho warmer air was flooding in over top. looked like it basically made it to the eastern beltway or so. i think it's pushing back east now. see if DCA falls. WVclimo
0Z GFS has the freezing line at 850 here by 12Z. That's the earliest I've seen on any model run today.
Bob Chill
check out the new GFS nice blob of snow appears over us at 24 hr. panel Look at h7. It's moved through by hr 24 but the ul energy still looks ok from 18-21. It's a complicated interaction but there are some potential dynamics to work with for a few hours. Thundersnow or bust. mitchnick
if you follow the line of rain in VA on this map, it looks like the cooler air is about to cut the warm air off at the pass but check out that 57 just SE of DCA http://www.marylandwx.com/radar/klwxstate_br.php

I probably don't use GREarth enough to justify the cost lol - trying to use it more lately. Nearest wxbug station is sitting at 42 right now. Jebman
Topped out at 41, now 37 degrees. NO northerly wind tho. EDIT - Damn weatherbug on my phone is not showing the wind. We got north winds gusting to 18 mph. It's getting pretty blustery out there with plenty of rain. It's been entertaining watching the temp drop but I expect the drop to come to a screeching halt at 35 degrees until after all the precip moves well east of the area tomorrow. mattie g
I'm glad most of the rain is falling at night. Bodes well for storms in DJF - heaviest stuff at night means better chance of snow.
