We've got a 60' maple--not especially old, but tall.  Two summers ago, I noticed that it was beginning to split along the trunk line.  At first, just a fault-line which has grown into an increasingly widening crack you can see through.  I'm wondering if today might be the day to actually complete the split.  Will give me a head start on firewood for coming seasons in any case.

That would be very sad if a 60 Foot Tree fell. It's probably gorgeous.

Incredible cold today. Playing a gig in Warwick and it feels like January and February. Fantastic. Didn't realize until I was reading on here that is Historic Cold.

Yip Yip!!

I just spent some time in the woods with the dog. She was extraordinarily energetic...a winter weenie amongst dogs for sure. Deep winter feel. Hiking through wooded areas hearing the wind roar through the trees walking on a deep carpet of fallen oak leaves. A magical time and I'm quite thankful at my stage in life I have the vigor to enjoy it. And don't forget...

Long....live....winter!!

One of the best from Boston area

@ericfisher: Very well could end with snow though Wednesday night...a white Thanksgiving for some towns? Still a bit too early to tell.

seriously...how often do lows cutting through or west of new england end as anything other than rain? maybe a few flurries whip in on the backside? it almost never happens.

2 ways.

Either it goes east over CC

Or

Follow up wave

i guess i just don't see it. maybe being too pessimistic, i don't know. i feel like a few flurries or a random snow shower? anything other than that is going to be really hard to come by imho. all the energy comes up and through in one big swoop. there's no lagging energy for a follow up wave. and the system has hardly matured as it passes through so it's not likely to have some big wrap around precip field.

Agreed...don't see much at the end except maybe a few flurries to end it..perhaps a very brief period of steadier SN-...but nothing that would lead me to believe in any accumulations. Of course, there is still a little bit of time to change things, but I think the moulding is beginning to set on this one.

It's actually not a gorgeous tree.  It's surprisingly skinny for a maple.  I spared it last year during some of my clearing.

As we drove into the drive just now, my wife said "boy that tree is really opening up".  I think it may go today.  hopefully without taking out either an apple tree, the shed, nor landing in the pool.  I think the apple is the most likely to go.

20.1/-1 off a high of of 21.2; was 27 down in Northampton

Gust recorded of 32mph.

Good temp call by BOX.
