Potential Record Breaking Cold Sunday/Sunday Night---Late Nov Discussion

We've got a 60' maple--not especially old, but tall.  Two summers ago, I noticed that it was beginning to split along the trunk line.  At first, just a fault-line which has grown into an increasingly widening crack you can see through.  I'm wondering if today might be the day to actually complete the split.  Will give me a head start on firewood for coming seasons in any case.

BOX's progged low 20's are doable here I think.  We might eek out a scrape of 20.0 since it's 17.0* and it's still only 11:00a.m.  Might not, too, but if they miss, it won't be by yards.

Speaking of yards, I bet it's easy to get a Pats ticket today!

I would go if they happen to avail themselves.

Today is the second day in a row that the HIGH was achieved at midnight. That's def. a first. Wind is freshening!

You guys should have a thread devoted to the mid week rain/wind event.   I thought this would be discussing the fact that it's approaching the highest sun-angle time of day for this time of year, and it is less than 20F at ORH with no snow pack.

It's in there--just read through.

Continuting to climb.

Tell tale sign that we are undergoing intense cold air advection when the temp has continued downward as we approach mid day....

For you folks in the east.  Out here it's been trending (slowly) upward.

18.1/3

Don't look now, two of the four Tolland stations are now over 20*.  I hope Kevin can stay below 20.0 for his AWT.  I think he refers to the Leela Way one as akin to his backyard which is 3* cooler than the Birch Drive one he said today is in a totally weenie spot of town.

I think we are last sub forum to start a thread on it specifically. "Rains, some flooding possible, some crabby mets and weenies hope for snow at picnic tables or at least powder freaks mountain melting"

Hows that for a title

I love the way Tolland has evolved into the capital of AMWX....with like 5 weather stations battling it out for weenie proxy lol

I think BUF and SYR can win out with the synoptic snow and LES.  Winds gust past 40mph, making Wednesday a living traffic nightmare with blowing snow.  I think we can get a white Thanksgiving in BUF.  Wind damage appears plausible given the strength of the low level jet forecasted by several models.  I think our first real snowstorm threat comes with the return of December to our neck of the woods.  Once that calendar reads December 1st we turn into mid winter and have several snow threats, especially with the STJ starting to get it's act together according to the EURO, but timing is everything with the polar jet and sub tropical jet streams in this split flow regime.

Has 7" over the Catskills! lol

That's what you get with 80 knots of the a LLJ ramming into a front draped overhead. There are some big signals for excessive rain.

MPM it's 17.1 here currently and my Davis is in the sun currently

Your a degree cooler than every other Tolland station, and 3* cooler than the Birch one that was cooler than you this morning.  In fact your the coolest temp in CT outside of East Hartland. Time to send your Davis in for a tune-up.  j/k :)

18.5/3 at the Pit.

I just spent some time in the woods with the dog. She was extraordinarily energetic...a winter weenie amongst dogs for sure. Deep winter feel. Hiking through wooded areas hearing the wind roar through the trees walking on a deep carpet of fallen oak leaves. A magical time and I'm quite thankful at my stage in life I have the vigor to enjoy it. And don't forget...

Long....live....winter!!
