How does one define 'white out' at night?

Flurries here, looks like a decent shot in Deerfield/Whately.

24.6/19

I can define white out to me. When a squall went through here an hour ago I could not make out my neighbors house right across the street. Vis goes down to several hundred feet. I never saw that when I lived in the Boston area, not even in Noreasters. Doesn't last too long but snow squalls up here can be very intense. I havepicked up 2-3" inches in about 20 to 30 minutes in some of these mountain squalls!

You should have been here in Feb when vis was near 100' for about 3 hrs. It happens in true nor'easters.

Probably 1.5" here from various squalls. Down to 19.6 now.
