moneypitmike
LOL the soundings are insane. 75+kt winds at 850 from the ne. Even away from the coast would show decent winds. But--let's not consider such details 160 hours out. Someone keep a screenshot of this. We can all use it as a stocking stuffer.

wxeyeNH
A WORD OF CAUTION: TELL NO FRIENDS, FAMILY, OR CO-WORKERS WHAT YOU SEE ON THE GFS!!!! YOU WILL RUN THE RISK OF: 1) BAD JUJU 2) BECOMING A LAUGHING STOCK ON CHRISTMAS DAY 3) WANTING TO DROWN YOURSELF IN A BOWL OF EGG NOG Absolutely right!! After this week I am not going to tell anyone anything until the first cirus move overhead. My family and friends think I'm crazy after going back and forth so many times this past week. This will be a AmericanWX secret!

Mr Torchey
I don't take anything beyond 5 days all that seriously, but fun to look at. Good way to look at things, its going to take a lot for this to amplify and not be shredded to hispanolia. Pna has to spike, the ridge out west needs to head towards chris Kringle, the one eyed monster over se canada has to move east, get a nice hp to our north. it can happen, I hope it does, but after this week, and frankly this year, I think its wise to wait until Thur Fri before taking it seriously, but is is absolute porn on the gfs, which is always good for it. YOU WILL RUN THE RISK OF: 1) BAD JUJU 2) BECOMING A LAUGHING STOCK ON CHRISTMAS DAY 3) WANTING TO DROWN YOURSELF IN A BOWL OF EGG NOG I stopped telling my parents about impending snow storms two years ago. I believed, and still do, that when I tell them about it, they immediately start wishing against it, until it is no more. Case in point: they picked me up at college on Thursday, after the excellent runs of the Euro, and I mentioned the potential to them. And we all know what happened at 00z that night. I can't let my guard down again like that. Sorry everyone

OKpowdah
Similar to the current "threat" I believe the main options are a scraper or a MECS. I can't see this going OTS or cutting inland.

Nah, the issue there won't be any trouble amplifying - as to whether a storm impacts or not will more strictly be related to location. But amplitude is pretty much signal on a planetary level with this thing.

moneypitmike
Based on how the models handled the current system, I'd almost prefer it show a sunny day with temps in the 40's.

The "average" person doesn't follow this stuff on a day to day basis, so there are a lot of folks walking around today thinking we're in for a monster storm -- based solely on something they heard late Thursday. There's always extra attention paid to Christmas weather, so you can bet this will be on everyone's radar. A lot of local mets have been mentioning a Christmas snow possibility for a couple days already. I'll just wait for Lucy to pull the ball away. After this last model dabacle, Certainly going to side with caution for this next threat until we are much closer , Although this one seems to have more merit with the track it looks to take... moneypitmike
Kevin says the systems will always trend northwest in a nina. Based on that, our GFS eye-cendy's destined to become a grinchy Rochester Reeker.

I didn't imply that it was crucial; I merely asked why the model was doing that so I could learn.
