Speedskater
North America will have a total Lunar Eclipse Tuesday December 21. For the east coast it will start late Monday evening. Will any of us be able to see it?

aslkahuna
We may have high clouds but should still be able to see it. This is a special eclipse for me. Those familiar with Saros cycle involving eclipses (18 years 10.3 days) know that after 3 Saros cycles (54 years) the eclipse repeats for the same general location. The eclipse 54 years ago was in November 1956 and a bunch of us in San Jose CA went up into the hills to escape valley haze and fog and it was then we took our first color photos of a lunar eclipse (I think I may still have a slide or two of it around). Eighteen years later, I observed the November 29, 1974 eclipse in the Philippines which took place the night after we could slam danced by Typhoon Irma-the strongest to hit Clark AB since before WWII. The December 1992 eclipse was an early evening affair in the eastern US and only barely visible in AZ but it was noteworthy for those who saw for being very dark due to the after effects of the Pinatubo eruption. Hopefully, I can catch the December 2011 eclipse which will be briefly visible here for that is my birth year Saros eclipse. Steve

I hope you get a glimpse of it. We won't be able to view it here in Indiana due to the clipper moving through at that time.
