Really dumb to bring this crap up. CNN did their best to tie this to AGW as well. Why can't people just keep their mouths shut. Everyone has to create drama.

Yeah I know. Watts is just as bad for dowplaying as CNN is bad for trying to find a link.

I'm pleased to see several interviews with scientists that when asked about the link they have either downplayed or dismissed entirely. The link between AGW and TCs is pretty clear... as of right now there is no link! The IPCC report is pretty clear on that.

Was one of the strongest storms on record. Watts and gang are total trolls.... not sure the point of that stupid post.

I was just wondering, heard lots of things stating that today. I suppose having a correct record is important and to have all the MSM state that today surely could be hype which I thought no one wanted. Next up will be its GW's fault.

I've heard "one of the strongest" in the MSM... haven't heard a definitive "the strongest". I think the former is a fair characterization.

And to be honest I don't care what a dumb weekend producer at CNN puts in a script or a question to ask an expert about the "link" between AGW and TCs as long as the "expert" answers fairly/honestly.

Some say the fun has left this place, but I haven't seen many red taggers say that...it's mostly all hobbyists. The level of discussion is rising and some like that higher, more technical and professionally reserved discussion. It's what attracts the Red Taggers here in the first place. I think they want to keep increasing their knowledge and keep the discussion more professional, while some others are just fine keeping it how it was and just have a place to shoot the sh*t with friends.

No offense to the "red taggers" and hard core knowledgeable hobbyists but if this place turned into a strictly-no-holds-barred-technical-scientific-weather-board (SNHBTSWB for short), I think many would leave.  That kind of sh*t would be boring as hell.  Shooting the sh.it is a big part of what public internet forums are all about.

The architectural forums that I belong to are the same, hard core historians, and technical architects (I am licensed architect btw), combined with others who haven't received their license yet and just like to be there for whatever reason to shoot the sh.it, etc. Although I will say that the architecture forums are full of arrogant d-bags.

...On the other side of the coin, maybe most of the hard core redtaggers want just folks in here who exist on the same playing field of weather knowledge with met degree, etc.  I don't think that is the case.  If it were up to some of the DBM folks they would have this entire SNE forum destroyed with all of us perishing in a 12' blizzard

None of us want that...I'm sometimes one of the ball busters and I'm a so called red tagger. The point was leveling some of the weenie banter that gets out of control.

That's true. This place is really a community where people share a common interest and do shoot the sh*t around here. I do wish when we were dealing with a threat or in forecast threads it would be more weather/science but it's a balance we try to strike.

There would be many more mets who would post here if we had no weenies/no banter/no garbage posts but that's not what this place is. Wasn't designed to be that place and there's no plan on making it that.

Good, its disheartening to read about outside influences trying to destroy a great community.

so you are saying it's OK to pigpile and degrade if you graduated college with a MET degree? I highly disagree with your assertion that we are all here because of the intelligence level,it's more than that but I understand your opinion. Yes it's not as interesting and light hearted as it once was. Rote repetitive discussion is absolutely more interesting with a sense of humor mixed in. This place was intended as a place where commality of passion was shared. Again it is what it is but having a tag gives no special privilege to degrade and that was what It's always Sunny's point was.

Yeah I mean there's a right way to address someone and educate them rather than the piggy pile, but that doesn't happen much. I guess I just don't see the widespread degrading of non-met posters but enough people have commented on it that it must be there.

And I still think we are here for a higher level of posting. Go read the accuweather forums (I haven't in a year or two so maybe they changed, but it was pretty brutal with wishcasting)...I think we have more in-depth analysis than that and that's what folks are looking for.

We've heard from new members who used to post elsewhere and found this place that, wow this forum is so much better. Im sure that has to do with the level of information exchanged.

The same guy watched the video with his jaw dropping, the same guy would not post that if it were a CNN crew doing the same thing. Its the mans passion and living, it is who he is, who is to judge what adrenaline folks do. Wether its chasing tornado's, jumping off a 1000 ft buildings or climbing Mt Everest. There is only one judge.

No doubt and I have said it a million times this subforum rocks I just wish people would leave us the hell alone.
