Ya James this is a scenario u should be allowed to speak about w/out ...well whatever. I guess if models bring it back tommorrow u can again, seems like the anti "hype crowd" needs to relax, bc it discourages simple discussion. Would mods/mets suggest he take it to banter (honest question) But ya i was watching gfs/ gefs to see how far south arctic front settles, nam not so much , yet

Just going off what you're saying here but let the kid speak. Most of you take this "oh this post belongs here, this post belongs there" too seriously. Let the power-hungry mods fix that. How is he supposed to know where these posts go?  He doesn't live on here like 99% of you. I feel like whenever a new weenie jumps aboard ya'll rip him apart like you own the place. I know I don't post a lot but let's be real here. It's a message board guys, not a sanctuary. To be honest this New England forum is one big CJ. Just tellin' it how it is because nobody else knows how to. This board is great and all as a matter of fact I've picked up more information than I can even tell you through this board but most of you take the fun out of it, for me at least.

 

And for those that want to rip me apart for posting this, go ahead. Enjoy.

There is a thread called banter where all the misc posts and questions go and then ones like this to separate the more met discussion. I think you are missing the point.

Thought for Josh tonight, he was at ground zero, CNN reporting 50 ft surge and multiple reports of complete devastation in Tacloban

He survived. Pretty harrowing tale on his facebook page. Complete devastation where he was but his team managed to get evacuated and one of the guys suffered what sounds like a bad leg injury.

I disagree with a lot of that. Nobody is ripping him apart, we all know him. Secondly, it's some harmless busting since we know him. Third, it's pretty well marked what is what. Saying an unstable mesoscale model at 84 hrs out to extrapolate 168 hrs out is a bad idea isn't exactly ripping him apart.

In terms of discussion, not bad at all, might just be the perceived tone.  I will leave this for discussion thread or even over beers on Sat.

Just the other day you went into the Red Sox thread and randomly bashed us for discussing various moments during the game. I think you enjoy being an antagonist.

We love new people posting here. Extrapolating the 84hr NAM to double its run cycle is a tad weenieish though. The Gulf Stream doesn't turn every storm into Jan 05 either. We've all learned a lot through these forums and he will too. We all make weenie comments from time to time, but sometimes people cross the excessive line and it becomes an eyesore to read. If we didn't moderate these types of posts over the years we'd be as bad, or worse, than accuweather.

IMO, we actually moderate very little here. We have an entire OT forum so technically we don't even need to allow OT banter threads in the regional subforums -- but we do. People like you, who are here only 1% of the time, have preferred to have all weather threads so that they can easily catch up on the discussion without having to read the pages of banter posts. We admittedly try to make as many people here as happy as possible. We're not perfect, but I think we've had a lot of success over the last 10 years adapting to change in the online wx community.

I'm just a power-hungry staff member though so what do I know?

LOL, you know Dendrites better than any one on AMWX.  I was trying to decipher what he means and have to agree with him in part. There is a tendency to pig pile sometimes. Its all about presentation I suppose, righting a wrong or bad interpretation of meteorology is absolutely fine but degradation never is. I am of the opinion that this is a community not a caste system. The perception for me has been trending towards some Mets and Mods considering themselves elite and degrading others thoughts, that I believe is the jist of its Sunnys post.

James got a little of the snownh treatment there, but you know how these forums often police themselves to some extent. I wouldn't call it a CJ though...just the majority speaking out that the weenie posts are getting a little excessive to read. blizz24 was always a hit and run weenie poster which kinda made it funny.

Some of the mets get on you about the astro stuff, but I always took it at friendly ribbing. You've always brought a lot to the forum and I think most would agree.

I've never seen a real mean tone from anyone in here. Well Dave was a dick the other night, but that's it.

 

 

There certainly were some salty exchanges when posters like Pete, Snow NH and Vim Toot were around.

 

Snow NH had some tirades that were some of the funniest things I've seen on this forum.  He had Kevin in fear for his safety. lol

Oh I give it and take it, was referring more to the newbies and less knowledgeable posters.

LOL--you can get excited about the possibility of a couple flakes tonigiht and some cooler air on Tues/Wed.

 

Embarassingly for me--I am having my leaves done today.  Yes--I pay to have that done.  A very wise thing I learned 3 years ago when I caved in to the idea.  What's embarrassing is that he was supposed to come on Thursday when I was hard at work in my office.  Due to the rain, he came today.  So, instead of working, I'm sipping my coffee while he's outside.  Boy, to I feel like a lazy sh*t.
