EastCoast NPZ
wind direction is per a compass rose, so in all the cases above you'd add a 0 to the end.. north/northwest mainly. wind speed is in knots sustained. sunday is going to be fierce... prob gusts past 40 per that guidance. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/mdl/synop/mavcard.php that link tells you what each row of the MOS output means. As well as all the different categories used. Thanks to you both for the explanations. I love cold, but hate wind..... I'm torn for Sunday. Definitely sitting Dez Bryant this week, no way they'll be able to pass in those conditions in NJ.
WinterWxLuvr
What, and miss the Vikings game . LOL. You better watch out. The Ravens haven't beaten us .................................. yet. There will be hell to pay around here if the Vikes win that one and complete the beltway sweep. Sorry WxUSA, forgot that this wasn't the banter thread. I'll keep it to a minimum. Lolz, if they beat the Ravens i will have to stay away from here for a week just to avoid you. They have to beat the Jets and the Squeelers to make that game even mean anything to the Ravens. Personally i think we win both. Let's move further trash talk to the banter thread .

WVclimo
steve/ginx shared this on twitter At Martinsburg, with a period of record of 85 years, the annual average for a sub 32 high in November is 0.3. So, roughly 3 times every 10 years. Looks like a good shot on Sunday. Record low max for that day at MRB is 31, in 1981.

nw baltimore wx
That was 1976-1977, the coldest winter I can remember but also not one with that much snow. It was horrible! I was in 7th grade at Pullen Jr. High in Seat Pleasant and Mr. Browne insisted that we go outside for gym class first period all winter. I was the bonehead out there everyday in sub 20 degree weather in those nasty yellow shorts and reversible yellow/navy blue shirts, but no coat. But I wasn't the only one. Most of us in 7th grade were stupid. Coldest winter ever and zip for snow.

WinterWxLuvr
Was 76-77 the year of the 'non-blizzard' blizzard or was that 77-78? If it's what I think you're thinking of it was 76-77. Blizzard warnings even down in swva. Very little snow but a cold front that dropped temps from 50 to 8 in a couple hours.
