Will Rising PNA Help Out NYC Snow Chances?

The models are finally forecasting the PNA to rise higher than we have seen since mid November.

Not that it's a guarantee, but in the past when the La Nina was moderate or stronger we needed to have the PNA come back closer to neutral to positive

when we were able to pick up a 6 inch snowfall around NYC Metro. We really don't have a large enough sample size of storms to choose from but

I was able to find 4 dates with the PNA values.

1/1/71......-0.179

2/9/74......-0.095

1/25/00...+0.878

2/22/08..+0.652

I look at the the period going forward as a window of opportunity to watch for the chance of some snow.

But as always, especially at longer intervals we'll have to wait until we get

closer to the threats to see how things work out.
