If you look at the past few first freezes we've had:

11/6/12 - 5pm (day before): 41/22, 12am: 35/19, low: 31

12/10/11 - 5pm: 38/15, low: 32

12/4/10 - 5pm (day before): 39/21, 12am: 34/21, low 32

Today - 5pm: 45/26

39 at the park at 8pm. Even a degree an hour will put us at 35 at midnight and then a degree every 2 hours would put them at 32 by 6am. Strong CAA with north winds should pull it off.

Those dates did not have set-ups like today for cold.  I think its hard to compare like that

Pazzo I get where you're coming from but this is totally situationally depending. If you have CAA you'd expect a completely different scenario then if its a windless clear night w/radiational cooling. In the second scenario I'd probably agree. I think tn is more like scenario one however.

I agree with you.  The 12Z NAM MOS has KNYC down to 32 with ~6kt winds which is too high for the net radiational cooling.
