D-Money
Take the nams Pecip type and use the gfs QPF. Thinking that's a good guess for us.
starrin
Began sleeting heavily at 1230. Covering the deck. but also the ground - so much for residual warmth from Sunday
DJnVa
Definitely busting down here. 0 snow. A bit of sleet and the moisture is basically shut off. Everything I read said snow wasn't even supposed to be here yet. Sleeting hard now.
VABILLUPS1
Not gonna make 2"-4". Cold air is overwhelming the precip, drying everything out. Still going to make for a treacherous drive home though. Not looking forward to it.
DJnVa
Starting to cover the parking lot already...
eaglesin2011
Heavy bands still breaking up b4 getting into the area... hopefully something holds together in the next hour or two...

VABILLUPS1
I don't know that I've ever seen the models perform much worse than they have with this thing. I kind of suspected they were probably a little overdone for the most part but did anybody see anything that had the precip shutting off anywhere near this quickly? eaglesin2011
Same thing been happing all season heavy bands keep breaking up right over the mountains or we miss them by 30 miles or so

DJnVa
weather.com (I know, I know) has UPPED my forecast to 4-6 inches....it now says "heavy snow". However, the hourly forecast doesn't match that.
Portsmouth Weather
I was thinking it would backfill after the initial band, but I'm not seeing it develop. Hopefully that ULL will influence development soon
rmcwahoo
Eagles I hear you man, Richmond has missed every storm this year in every way possible it seems. Yes, we've gotten accumulating snow, but if there's a dry slot to hit, or a band to miss, we've done it. Very frustrating actually, but what can you do, its the weather! VABILLUPS1
It's just too much cold air. The storm got crushed. Every model kind of showed that but not to this degree.
eaglesin2011
Yep, just shows how hard/rare it is to get a big snow in this area... Still amazing how went from 75 to this today...
crainjd
Any thoughts on the snow in Western Virginia pushing all the way to the coast?

eaglesin2011
Its really getting to the point of what we can squeeze out of the ULL no wide spread band is really organizing.. that being said their is a nice band right over Richmond now and another about 45 mins away if holds together that should hit Ric and Petersburg... father south in VA now the better chance of more bands forming
hokierulz98
It's just too much cold air. The storm got crushed. Every model kind of showed that but not to this degree. The RGEM did the best with this system for Richmond. It was only calling for 3 or 4 inches in Richmond yesterday while all the other models were calling for 6 to 8 inches and Richmond ended up with about 3 inches. The RGEM has been money all winter and has killed the NAM in storm after storm.
Portsmouth Weather
Still primarily sleet here in portsmouth. I'm surprised how hard it has been to transistion to snow. About 20% flakes now.
Portsmouth Weather
Wow, and just like that it has transitioned to 80 % snow and coming down moderately to heavy.
starrin
Here in my Great Neck of the Woods, the 12:30 heavy sleet lasted about 30 minutes; then dry til later in the afternoon. Light sleet resumed about 3:45 P. and snow began to fall about 4:45 and is replacing the sleet. Big flakes.
Portsmouth Weather
Looking good here. Heavy snow and looks like we have a few hours left before it clears. Down to

Portsmouth Weather
We may get those 2" after all. Looks good to our west and it's heading east I think we will. Roads are horrible though. Quarter inch of sleet with 2 inches of snow on top. It will fool a lot of people tomoroww.

SeVa
Been ripping snow for past hour. 3.25" will probably finish with 3.5" once this band pushes through. What an amazing way to end the season in March.
