How do the Members want this sub-Forum run/moderated?

while we are on the discussion...i do think it would be nice to be able to post a thought and then not be attacked for it with a "i guess you disagree with BOX" or a copy/paste from a Tweet from a MET saying the opposite thing...or, the worst, "well thankfully we've had some good thoughts from others that don't agree with that" (ahem...kevin)

It would be nice to get rid of those kinds of posts!

We have said that since he started separating them. Seems redundant. still waiting to hear who HM2 is and where that quote came from.

Well, yes.  But for the record I do like the multiple thread breakouts... I think there should be a storm banter thread for mods to just move whatever they feel is taking away from the scientific posts.  Such as when an arguement breaks out over some DOT's ability to plow roads or impact or whatever...anything that has nothing to do with the current weather discussion but is still relevant in a larger sense.

I sort of like having a thread filled with all the "garbage" posts, lol.  Mine get moved and I find it funny.  There just needs to be a thread for the mods to dump all the posts they think distracts from the real discussion.  Ryan, Will, Dendrite, etc all know when and where to get rid of stuff, so I trust their judgement on that.

I think it would be funny to have a thread full of "lol-tastic" posts that mods felt the need to make disappear.

Not until you moderate them. Until a mod steps in and cleans them up they are unreadable.

There is clearly a problem with the garbage posts that clutter up threads. The mods clearly see it. See below

Your posts were one of the primary reasons I do not come to this forum when there is a snow threat and I am in SNE

who are you? You have 200 posts and no one has ever heard of you. Why don't you come to the gtg instead of hiding behind a keyboard if you live here? Chances are you'll like all of us

The several different thread concept is absolutely ridiculous.  Since the idea was implemented to go to that forum is when alot of the issues really began to arise.  Having to worry about whether or not something you're posting is in the right thread or not makes it not even worthwhile to post.  If in the tropical thread, you make some comment about how the pattern shaping up could be favorable for a tropical impact, but then that leads to discussion about the pattern, people blow up saying those posts should be in the pattern thread.  I don't think people want to be jumping back and forth between 4-5 different threads just to be posting ideas and such.

One thing I miss is allowing posters who are just getting into weather the opportunity to post thoughts without posters calling them a wishcaster or weenie. Lots of the fine Mets who started here as kids used to post some pretty weenie stuff but the time was taken to explain to them why their thoughts were invalid, now its just a hey I am a met your posts suck kind of mentality. the community aspect needs reinforcement it seems. Science is science but shared learning is important too. Instead of deleting and dumping posts maybe some reasoning.

Once the threat becomes real and not fantasy talk, the threads are moderated. Before then is when the banter stuff might happen.

I think you missed the point.  Obviously it's not that the mods are against historic weather talk, it's that unrelated banter can serve as a segue, and it's not always easy to foresee in advance.  Most aren't going randomly bring up something that happened 30 years ago without a reason.

Sorry, that wasn't directed at you dude at all!  I feel like the mods let the historic weather talk go all the time.  But yeah, I guess you need a segue...but my point was just that I don't think that's what the mods are targeting.

You maybe have 200 posts out of 36,000+ that contain accurate information regarding temp, precip, and snow totals.

Toronto Blizzard?  haha.

Not many new posters show up here and I don't know anyone that showed up with honest intentions and just got their posts deleted.

This is a really good post and I agree. Need to find a way to let those posts continue and help people learn. I'm not sure the main thread is the place for it during a big event but you're right.

Typical New England to gang up on outsiders. We can be provincial fukkers.

We really don't like folks from other regions, lol.

I'm just happy you guys put up with folks from NNE... though even that can sometimes get tense if a snow event bisects the region. ;)

Unfortunately weather does create regionalism.

Take all of our threads and lump them into one big thread... it would be unreadable.  You can create a severe weather thread and post info there, and if you take a break from the board for an afternoon, you don't have to come back and find the last severe weather post 10 pages deep.

And honestly, all summer we've had generic threads like "August weather discussion" or "October weather discussion"... like Will said last night, that's a pretty wide range of topics that can be discussed in there.  Its not too constricting.

I totally disagree with your assertion, weather posts and banter from outside regions are wholeheartedly embraced, its the trolling and negativity that gets pounced on. the obsession with the New England forum by other regions and boards is one of the weirdest things that has developed.

was that posted here Bob, link please because I can not find it, if it wasn"t  umm bad taste.

Don't have a link since I am at work but it's at DBM.  It does not take away from his point though.  He was made to feel unwanted/uncomfortable in here and it's our fault for not stepping up at the time to deal with it properly.  I vaguely recall when it occurred but can't seem to find the posts.  I want to say he up and left this subforum in Spring.  It hurts, becasue he's one of the best we have here.

Steve is getting DTesque with the conspiracy theories.

Lol just was wondering where the HM2 guy was posting from. would like to ask him who drove him away and when. The HM I interacted with for the past ten years has been very tolerable of questions and people challenging his assertions.

It got pretty bad for a period of time though with people trolling him. That's why he left.

I'm going to backtrack a bit of what I said...

I understand the notion of having the separate threads and such and it certainly does make it much easier to find specific information you're looking for.  However, what I hate about it is, if a post isn't 100% specific towards that thread it creates a stir.  I'll use the example I posted as well.  I've seen several times where there would be some solid weather discussion going on but b/c it wasn't in the right topic, it created a bit of a stir.
