How do the Members want this sub-Forum run/moderated?

I'd personally like to see it broken off into a new thread. That's my opinion. I'm all for solid discussion, just keep it on topic.

I am a bit confused. There is now an October banter and discussion thread...

I blinked and missed a merge? Where would obs (temp/dews/rainfall/etc) be placed?

At this point, there is not much else to discuss on the short term wrt wx.

I have? I'd like a list of names and posters that have left the board because of me. Please list them here publicly

I haven't read the thread and I don't need to read it. Not only did I give them my time but actual science and accurate forecasts last year. They still allowed me to get trolled by ungrateful know-nothings. Again, the best thing I ever did on amwx was get the hell out of that subforum.

I don't remember Blizz arguing with HM...someone else got into it with him (I forget who), but he is pretty much one of the best of the best in terms of knowledge/forecasting/enlightening. A lot of folks could benefit from posting more like him

From the way I see it.  Scientific posts would be in a main discussion thread.  Storm Obs would be in a storm specific thread.  Any daily general temps/dews, etc can be in a catch-all Banter thread.  Banter is anything weather related outside of scientific weather discussion.  Pretty simple.

That is what I figured, but is it now all in that Oct thread??? Which is fine for now with this very exciting weather...

Should actually deal with them instead of participating in them.  You've made hundreds or even thousands of banter posts mostly fun style attacks on blizz.  Several moderators foster that environment here.  I don't see it as a problem except when the same moderators police the behavior they encourage and participate in.

Good point - instead of calling out stupid posts maybe we'll just resort to suspensions.

I'll say that we no longer have many of the women posting in here due to the sexist weenie/d**k references that went on.  No place for that in here.  And this emoticon :weenie:  is not the same as a veiled written reference to the male member.  You can call someone a weenie but to say rock with your jocks out or anything else like that is against the rules to me.

while we are on the discussion...i do think it would be nice to be able to post a thought and then not be attacked for it with a "i guess you disagree with BOX" or a copy/paste from a Tweet from a MET saying the opposite thing...or, the worst, "well thankfully we've had some good thoughts from others that don't agree with that" (ahem...kevin)

Which HM is it?

not HM but HM2 perhaps Forky can tell us what board he pulled that from. Somebody has a thread on our subforum somewhere it appears. I missed who drove HM away but like Don S his thoughts are awesome and best dessiminated on the main forum, in fact he and Don should have exclusive threads.

I agree - and this is what I struggle with. Chances are if there's good wx discussion about an old event and it's quiet I won't move it. It's the garbage OT posts in the threads that I have a problem with.

Yeah I don't think discussing historical weather and past storms is really the issue here, lol.  Everyone knows we talk about past events in just about every single thread.  Severe threads often turn into winter memory threads, haha.  Those don't get deleted very often, its the crap-tastic troll posts that get deleted.

When there is a threat, the disco and obs threads are banter free.

Not until you moderate them.  Until a mod steps in and cleans them up they are unreadable.

There is clearly a problem with the garbage posts that clutter up threads.  The mods clearly see it.  See below

Oh I agree about our subforum... it really is fantastic. I don't think you guys have any idea how much moderation goes into those winter threads though. Sometimes there are dozens and dozens of deleted/moved posts. It actually becomes a total pain in the butt moderating those threads.

I don't disagree here Steve.  Even with discussion that may be regional centric, we should be able to move them to the main forum and also promote them on the main page.  JohnWow is looking for threads to promote on there and if we keep banter/ot out of them we have no problem pushing them(threads).

Especially when you're on a mobile device.  :axe:

Your posts were one of the primary reasons I do not come to this forum when there is a snow threat and I am in SNE

your loss. I run a multimillion dollar facility and believe me this is the very first place I check for information and insight and never once had a problem during upcoming events finding info. I love this subforum especially the residents of it. still waiting for the link

I agree with the multiple thread ideas, except during an actual event, the Storm Discussion and Storm Obs threads seem redundant.  Oftentimes people will analyze something (such as current radar trends) and add an observation at the bottom of the post or something.  Then they go into the other thread and post essentially the same exact thing.

I feel like the progression should be from a storm discussion thread to a storm observation thread... not having both of them running at the same time.

Reading through, I agree that moderation does need to become more consistent and once a common ground is not only set but being used consistently that would clear up many issues.  The problem has been the lack of consistency.  Everytime we get to this type of year we go over the same thing and more and more attention gets paid to about the rules and trying to hammer down.  Why can't it be that way during the summer?  I never say anything about this b/c I know it won't go anywhere but what about the summer threads for convective threats?  I understand this isn't the Plains and not everyone gets in on the action, but some of what happens with those threads completely violates these rules that have been highlighted and nothing gets done.  Probbly more than half of the entire thread is nothing but trolling or posts about lack of any data to back anything up and the posts "nothing will happen b/c it's SNE" are ridiculous and flat out stupid.

The above is the mindset of someone that just doesn't get it.

They view people not coming here as that persons loss.  In actuality it's very much the SNE forum's loss.  The garbage posts and nonsense keep out people that could add value to your discussions.

I think you missed the point.  Obviously it's not that the mods are against historic weather talk, it's that unrelated banter can serve as a segue, and it's not always easy to foresee in advance.  Most aren't going randomly bring up something that happened 30 years ago without a reason.

We have said that since he started separating them. Seems redundant. still waiting to hear who HM2 is and where that quote came from.
