SouthernNJ
The supercells near Griswold and Hampton in Iowa will also have to be monitored closely for potential tornado development, with the Griswold storm on a track to possibly make a run at the Des Moines suburban area. Ensō
The Cherokee/Quimby tornado damage is being described as "catastrophic" I've seen that a few places, yet others have said little to no damage. Hopefully the latter. I wouldn't put much stock in any preliminary reports anyway.

I wouldn't put much stock in any preliminary reports anyway. Based upon the tornado images from that tornado, I would probably lean more on the strong damage reports vs little to no damage unfortunately. Certainly wouldn't be surprised, there was still a strong circulation in that area despite being pretty far from the radar. But it's hard to tell anything from initial reports. Sometimes claims of "catastrophic" damage end up being EF1-EF2 type stuff, and sometimes "moderate" damage turns out to actually be catastrophic when morning comes. Here's what I saw from a guy on a different site I frequent: "I'm from Cherokee. All my family still lives there. I just got off the phone with my parents, sounds like the storm moved passed the south side of Cherokee and the damage wasn't nearly as bad as predicted." andyhb
What a crazy and horrific day for the folks in northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa. We witnessed 5 tornadoes, 2 being mile wide wedges near Sloan and west of Anthon where we abandoned the chase and got into search and rescue mode as a violent tornado crossed right in front of us and destroyed a farm house. Caryn rescued a poor black lab who had a broken hip and was thrown a hundred yards from the house. Fortunately after an extensive search we discovered the family wasn't home at the time. Heading back to Grand Island, NE for the night, tired, hungry and soaked. I pray there weren't any fatalaties as these strong to violent tornadoes hit some pretty populated areas -Roger Hill
