You think we all troll you... and its usually true at some point or another, lol. You know your posting style is hard to ignore sometimes. You always go for the extremes, not to mention the odd shift from hyping everything hot/warm to everything cold... you can't expect people not to make comments. It must be especially hard for the folks that do this for a living...the ones who are actually concerned with getting it right and not just creating conversation for the sake of excitement. Typhoon Tip
Its normal and natural to feel this way. Cold and snowy in cold season and hot and humid in warm season I used to be that way. I used to be put off by cool weather in the summer, and drippy thaws that push Crocuses in February... I thought it somehow ruined the mood of the season. Now, I just get more fascinated with interesting weather. I think it more interesting when you get negative and positive anomalies relative to season. If it's hot in summer, I'm very curious to me how hot it can get. If it is cold, could we actually see snow in June? Same in the winter. As agonizing as the tone was back in them Eastern days, that incredible hot December of 2006 was something to behold. And in that same vein, in 2003 I remember my car turning over very sluggish for the -15F put up (or down my be apropos) one morning when I lived in Winchester. It's all good to me. That by the way was the last bona fide cold winter I recall -- though we have had a few cold snaps here and there. 2003-2004 stung at times. The latest I have seen snow around this lat/lon is May 22nd - real close.
HoarfrostHubb
Tip, was that cold shot 2003 or 2004? The one that cancelled schools I got to -18.9 F in Hubbardston. Would love to see that again

Would love to see that again That cold shot in January 2004 was the first time I ever spoke to a class full of kids (4th graders) and I was a college sophomore. I gave a very basic but highly attention grabbing ingredients of a snow day. I told them they weren't going to get a snow day but they very well may miss a day of school because of cold. Maybe my very first nailed on forecast?

The latest I have seen snow around this lat/lon is May 22nd - real close. 2003-04 was really the last brutally cold winter, I definitely agree. I was a sophomore in high school at the time, and was living in Dobbs Ferry...we had three major clippers in that brutally cold January and one dropped nearly 8". I remember several nights approaching 0F in the suburbs with Central Park hovering in the upper single digits. December and January were absolutely epic, winter took a break in February, and then March came roaring back with two storms around the equinox, each of which dropped 6-7" in Dobbs Ferry. We finished around 55" for the winter, which was slightly less than 02-03 though the cold was more memorable. However, people often forget that January 2003 had a stiff arctic outbreak; it's dwarfed by memories of the XMAS surprise which dropped a foot at my place and then of course PDII, but that was a time when we were huddled outside the high school awaiting rides from parents because it was simply too cold to walk the mile home... Can someone post the dailies for Central Park from January 2003 and January 2004 to compare? There have been cold spells since then, of course, but nothing approaching the extreme level of Jan 2004. I think January 2005 does stand out for me as it froze the Hudson River almost completely in Westchester, which is rare. The problem with 2005 is that the cold wasn't sustained like in 02-03 or 03-04, as other parts of the winter torched. December 2004 stands out as a very bland month, but the January outbreak did produce this scene of the Hudson with the sun setting...ah, deep winter: Okay, but don't you think it is interesting at all from a purely meteorological perspective when there is 1.5" of snow on Boston Common in mid May? I mean, come on! That's a rare thing ... one should appreciate that. Boston Common had 6" on May 10, 1977 so they've actually seen more than what you mentioned in May. Ginx snewx
Haha...for the record I have no idea which one will be right but was just posting what it had verbatim. If I was forecasting, I'd go compromise but I'm usually middle of the road conservative when it comes to weather (highs in the 50s for Friday and 60s on Saturday in CT)...you tend to try to keep it interesting with the extremes, and since it's cold season, so you're probably thinking 40s on Friday and 50s on Sat? I don't think 2003-04 was that cold. Jan '04 was about as cold a month as you'll see around here departure-wise, but both December and February were above normal in the winter of 2003-04. The winter averaged a couple of degrees below normal, but when you hang a crooked number like -7 or -8 for January that pretty much locks in a well below normal winter. The period July 2003-June 2004 featured 8 months of above normal and 4 below, so that January really stuck out. Jan '09 had a few mornings that were the coldest in 15 years which brought minus teens to the Connecticut shore. Jan '09, '94, and '88 are the Januarys that stand out for me if we're talking exceptional cold. '84 had some cold mornings too, but I was too young to remember that month when BDL bottomed out at -21 one morning. I wish I could have experienced Jan '61, but my parents weren't even born yet, so I obviously missed out on that one!
