Ginx snewx
That looks like real winter to me.I am so fortunate that just up my road about 1/2 mile it peaks at 650 ft or so with a plateau of corn fields that maximize drifts, my personal fetish I guess, makes for great walks and cool pics even in minor events. Not bootleg, man-made, ice drifts from other parts of your state. Just pure wind driven snow.
powderfreak
I just hate bare spots and prefer the impressiveness of an evenly plastered landscape. Valid point...hadn't thought of that too much. I guess getting 2 feet and still seeing grass in the yard is a little bit of a bummer, haha.

Ginx snewx
Not bootleg, man-made, ice drifts from other parts of your state. Just pure wind driven snow.On Rt 49 in Sterling Ct I have seen 2 inches of snow blown across a 3/4 mile corn field into 8-10 foot drifts. The one pic with the bucket loader is from there.. I am sure our state plow guy KBC360 on here knows the spot well. They need bucket loaders there often. Perfect setup on NW post storm low dew days. I have about 200 pictures or more from over the years. Special place that is.
HoarfrostHubb
Huge wind in April 97. I was in Gardner, MA at the time. 3 feet of snow, but the wind I don't recall.

Those blizzard/ground blizzard days were miserable and awesome at the same time. I mean obvious cold, but you truly felt like you were on another planet at times. Ground blizzard coming to an end in December of my first year there. 12/9/09 blizzard, DVN airport terminal building This is roughly 800 feet away from the WFO, totally obscured

Tornadomachine
Wonder if Quincy saw anything out in Iowa/Nebraska today. Lot of stuff fired there. In snow news, anybody else see the civil emergency warnings out in South Dakota? I don't think I've ever seen that before, though I certainly haven't been around long. Tornadomachine
And of course, major tornadoes on the other side of the state. What a gradient.

It's pretty common in parts of the Upper Midwest to have civil emergencies issued regarding travel restrictions. Many of the highways that are perpendicular to the wind direction are pretty much impassable during and shortly after a blizzard.

OceanStWx
Nice pics Ocean State, lol you probably had a couple of launches like this one tonight from Krap ! Geezus look at tha instability, no wonder they had T snow My first truly difficult launch in the NWS (about 3 months of solo upper air launching by this point). Our MMTS read -4, winds were gusting to 45 mph. Winds were nearly due west as you can see, and the inflation building only had two exits, north and south. So as soon as you near the door the wind catches the balloon and acts like a sail (easily enough to drag a person around with it). I was lucky enough to not bounce the balloon off the building or the pavement, but unfortunately it takes off paralleling the ground at wind speeds like that. The sonde tied to the balloon by 75 feet of string ended up bouncing 50 yards away in a field (breaking the Styrofoam case open, battery dangling out and all) before the balloon got high enough into the air to lift it off the ground. Data was great, and the balloon made it under 10 mb before bursting. Go figure.

I think it was 5 mph for every isobar. So 8 isobars packed across the state gave you 40 mph gusts.
