toronto blizzard
Week 4 on the weeklies has been beyond brutal. So far, week 4 has been extremely bullish in always bringing troughing. Weeks 2 and 3 have actually been decent. Are the ensembles looking a bit better beyond D10?
HoarfrostHubb
If Karen gets entrained into the front, it definitely will be wet next week.Yeah. I was thinking more about this weekendNext week could be a soaker if that happens
CoastalWx
Are the ensembles looking a bit better beyond D10? Yes they are, but it's also like day 15. I do think the second half of the month cools off relative to normal.
CapturedNature
Lol...I wish. It was autumn of 1965. I kind of thought so. I thought you were a little older than me (not that it is a bad thing!). I wasn't aware that it had snowed on another October 4th. I know the one I was talking about set all kinds of records. I just remember the connection with April 28th and how heavy the snow was. Ginx snewx
I like radarmans take of a retrogression pattern eventually leading to an additional hemispheric wave. Looking like October after Mid month works is way down to normal than below with November starting cold. October reminds me of July

It is comfortable and beautiful yet the summer sun doesn't "sting" post equinox. Table setting for a winter for the ages.

powderfreak
Some of those places out west are going to get a lot of snow... by October 15th they'll be sitting where we are usually sitting on like January 15th, lol.
Mr. Windcredible!
Not as cool IMHO as the Appalachian snows last year that were enhanced by Sandy. But still...always fun to track the first major snowfall of the season in the lower 48 states! This pretty awesome to see.... Tornadomachine
Anyone looking for eye candy? CMC has a lovely cutoff low from Cape Verde approaching the Carolina coast a week from now. At least it looks pretty, I don't suppose it'll actually happen.

But whenever there is a concurrent winter and tropical signal, it's impressive nonetheless.

Ginx snewx
An early winter storm will bring heavy snow and strong winds to the Black Hills region tonight through Saturday morning. Snow will develop over northeastern Wyoming and the Black Hills tonight. Rain will change to snow over western South Dakota Friday as cold air pushes into the area. Blizzard conditions will develop Friday morning as north winds increase to 30-50 mph with gusts reaching 70 mph causing blowing snow and near-zero visibilities on the South Dakota plains

I don"t know if you read Eric Radarmans assessment but makes pretty good sense that Nov turns cold and based on UNCs records you have this winter nailed. Damage In Tolland
Any reasonable ideas as to when we get the pattern back to normal or even a bit below? Is there a general date or timeframe we can look to other than mid month? is it the 15th or the 18th ?
Mr. Windcredible!
The black hills are really cool. Was there earlier this year and they get some awesome WX. Could never live out there...but I am sure jealous of some of their weather extremes! Isn't that where the record was set for the most rapid rise in temperature ever recorded? Went from some ungodly cold temp of like -20F to +50F in the span of 10-15 minutes. Something I remember geeking out over when perusing the weather/climate section of the Guiness Book of World Records.
