Ian
Guess not. You want me to second guess a warning issued an LWX forecaster? Sorry, not gonna do it. I wasn't there. Yeah I imagine some counties will not verify in their CWFA. That doesn't mean the warning was unjustified. Given where temps were when they issued it further east mixed with guidance it was probably what anyone would have done. They did specifically mention rural and areas away from the coast in the eastern half of the warning.
Ian
Tho I do wonder why not just do frost advisory in marginal areas. I don't know the internal policies obviously.

WxUSAF
Given that places like St. Mary's County airport, Manassas, Fredericksburg and some other places S/E of I-95 did get below 32, I think the warning was justified. Certainly not every location got below 32F, but I don't know what their precise criteria are for issuing a Freeze Warning.
wxmeddler
31.5° on the station last night at home. Now a steady NW breeze.

Eskimo Joe
I'm guessing what happens is that IAD gets some cold drainage, and it sets up an inversion where the winds decouple and go calm at the surface. Ian
So, DC included in another freeze warning that won't verify. There goes the theory they launched last night's to preclude them the rest of the season.

Ian
38 at DCA and 32 at the Arboretum? Could be. Don't know much about that part of the city. I'd anticipate a degree or two lower at DCA tonight unless we get a river wind or something. In theory I suppose that means someone in DC might touch freezing. wxdude64
Pretty cool site, my 4 'corners' were 1322, 1310, 1279, 1315. Hiked McAfee Knob in Roanoke County today on the App Trail, wow was it windy right on top-easy 20 with 35 gusts. Didn't make top until just after noon, still a little snow in very shaded areas on very top 100-200 foot.

wxdude64
Have a semi-serious question to those that are mets or work for NWS. Why does NWS continue to issues freeze warnings/frost advisories for locations that have obviously had several days of freezing temps? Down to 27.8 with a DP of 24.8 currently here.
