Guess not. You want me to second guess a warning issued an LWX forecaster? Sorry, not gonna do it. I wasn't there. Yeah I imagine some counties will not verify in their CWFA. That doesn't mean the warning was unjustified.

Given where temps were when they issued it further east mixed with guidance it was probably what anyone would have done. They did specifically mention rural and areas away from the coast in the eastern half of the warning.

Given that places like St. Mary's County airport, Manassas, Fredericksburg and some other places S/E of I-95 did get below 32, I think the warning was justified.  Certainly not every location got below 32F, but I don't know what their precise criteria are for issuing a Freeze Warning.

38 at DCA and 32 at the Arboretum?

Could be. Don't know much about that part of the city. I'd anticipate a degree or two lower at DCA tonight unless we get a river wind or something. In theory I suppose that means someone in DC might touch freezing.

I lose 70ft in elevation when I go 6 houses down the block.  That helps explain why I nearly pass out every time I try to bike the last bit back up to my house.

 should my daughter ever walk the .5 mile to get to elementary school, she will have a change of 60ft in elevation along the way. poor thing.
