Sure, but when we're talking about a rain/snow mix vs rain, I don't feel like much is being missed anyway.  The winds will be on the light side since this isn't an intense low pressure system, a weakish clipper.

Yeah that's true a light winds doesn't bring the marine air in very far. Maybe if we get these cold system in early enough, by the time we get to Thanksgiving we won't have to worry about the lake being too warm!

Yeah, wrong time of year to get this setup. If it were later we would be talking snow.

Although getting a head start on establishing the cold and snowcover over the northern hemisphere now during such a cold spell could bode well for helping the winter coming up. The sea ice seems to be freezing up really well this year and that could enhance strong shots of cold in the upcoming season. I'm looking forward to it.

The more surprising thing to me is the reinforcing shots that are shown in the mid to long range. It is basically like we are going from Summer to Winter in some places.

I was thinking just that for Toronto. We are just finishing t-shirt weather, now I will skip right over the sweaters and go straight to my winter jacket for the upcoming week! The absence of sun and chilly conditions coming this weekend and beyond will be quite a shock of cold to the people here.

Brewers - last time there was a trace of snow in October here was the 26-27th of 2008. Last time there was accumulation was before 1998 before I started recording. Thinking maybe 1996 or so.

Looks like November type cold!

Ramsey now mentioning rain and snow on Wednesday or light snow at night!

Could happen, but to me it's very marginal even here, I'd have to think the trough would have to be south of the Ohio Valley area for Chicago to see light snow without any rain mixing in at night.

We've had 4 measurable snows since 1990.

Oct 19th 1992 - 0.3"

Oct 20th 1992 - 0.9"

Oct 7th 2002 - 0.2" (Second earliest measurable snow)

Oct 12th 2006 - 0.1"

Yeah October 2006 I had some snow too, but did not stick. Guess MKE got lucky.

48° 46° with light to moderate rain this morning... yeah it's October!

ABC news is on board with the idea now and WGN continues to talk about it! Ramsey even said a chance Sunday night.

Some cold rains outside with a high of 55F currently.

Snow cover across the Yukon and NWT maybe hard to come-by next week as the ridge builds across the West but Nunavut, Manitoba and Quebec should see a nice increase in the meantime. The cold waves following this week till the end of the month should help cool the Great Lakes water temperatures and the Hudson Bay down a few degrees.

High of only 49° today! First sub 50° day of the season. Saw about 15 minutes of sun before sunset.

0.58" of rain today. Over 36" of rain for the year now. Clearing now, which is going to lead to lows in the 30s for sure tonight.

Brrr. Already 43° at 7:15pm!

I have pictures somewhere of 10/12/06 that I need to dig up. It was an intense shower that coated the ground, and contrasted well with the fall colors and blue sky after the wave passed. I remember the coolest shots being of the invasive shrubs like honeysuckle and buckthorn, with their snow-caked green leaves basking in the autumn sun.

Feels novemeberish here. Good possibility of accumulating snow 20-30 miles east of me next week. Rain/snow mix for me I'd have to assume.

The GFS has -25C 850's showing up just north of Lake Superior on Halloween.

If the GFS verifies, we would have sub freezing high temps for Halloween. Its such a massive ridge in the pacific that Barrow, AK would be warmer than our entire subforum.
