Let's talk winter!

My friend only had 4.5-5 in total, granted, he is in the southern portion of the area, but really. Ohio State didn't get that much either.

If they measured this morning only, it probably compacted quite a bit.  I'm sure most weren't out measuring every hour.  Port Columbus does not have a history of over measuring snowfall.  If anything, it's usually under, so when they're high, I usually take it as truth.

was out today driving and there was crazy local variation....ironically northeast and east areas from Westerville, New Albany all looked really heavy.  I haven't seen snow piles like this around town here since '09-'10.   I went down by the fairgrounds just north of downtown Columbus and it looked like they had half of what we got.  Then swinging around the east side of the outter belt (airport area) looked like as much if not more than Westerville.   Just weird, I think it had to  do  with the incredible rates and if you were in a pocket that was all snow for a time... it would have been very easy to get 2 or 3 more inches than someone 2 miles either side of you that might have been mixing with sleet.   Those rates were insane last night.

FWIW, latest euro looks better for the storm this weekend and another one next week. Plenty of time to fine tune these!

the none next week is interesting....if we can get a stronger low, more digging trough it's really close to an app runner.

Pondo...ggem has 'something' there too, but the timing is earlier.   Models seem to be varying on which energy to key in on.

How did all of the neighborhood streets look? Ours got plowed, but a buddy if mine said that places like Strawberry Farms that are served by Columbus still haven't been touched. I'm trying to plan whether Westerville will be on a delay or closed tomorrow. Hard to believe they still haven't plowed some of these areas.

Here is the list of the top 10 snowiest seasons through February 5th in Buffalo:

1st in 1977, 172.9 inches
2nd in 1978, 128.7 inches
3rd in 2001, 117.8 inches
4th in 1996, 103.7 inches
5th in 2002, 101 inches
6th in 1945, 92.9 inches
7th in 1986, 91.7 inches
8th in 1918, 91 inches
9th in 2009, 89.8 inches
10th in 1970, 88.4 inches

Current Snowfall for 2013-2014 stands at 89.2 which puts us into the top 10! This is extremely high for KBUF, because they only got hit with a few LES events. They have predominantly been across southern Erie county this year.

Columbus closed.  Westerville will probably follow.  A lot of courts, cul de sacs and back roads are a mess

I wandered back from downtown yesterday to home using COTA (buses were free the whole day). Granted, I haven't been here as long as many of you, but I don't think I've every seen High St that deserted, at least during the day. It definitely was as snow covered as I'd ever seen it from Downtown to just past Henderson.

Actually I find it hard to believe Cochoton only had a lousy 15.6" through the end of Jan this winter? They're almost in LE territory.

all I can think is cmh obviously counts any snow that falls whether it accumulates or not. We've have several 1" snows that melted soon after. So I honestly can't figure out where cmh is getting 45". There are several cmh members here. So that's who to ask. Do you realistically think you've seen 45" of snow? I'd honestly say, being realistic that 30" would be fair with the past 2 storms. And I'm not even close to the snowbelt. We get no lake effect here unless winds are dead on and even then only sometimes an inch or two.

Columbus' total is right up there with nearby cities like Dayton and Cincinnati, so I'm not sure why it's being singled out.  And yes, I would say it's pretty accurate.  15.6" seems laughable this year, but who knows.  Maybe it's just been in a really, really bad location this year.

Actually the airport is usually on the low end of measurements. There were other areas nearby that reported 9 inches or so-the most of anywhere else in Central Ohio, so I guess they just lucked out with the most. It is more often the other way around, thinking clear back to the seventies. I can't even count how many times reports have come in, and then CMH comes out, and I have been "WHAT! how could they be that low-the lowest of anywhere in the whole region!".

I can say that yeah, with all the 'nuisance' snows and with the innumerable times I have had to clean the snow off my car, I think 45 inches is very much in line with what I have gotten.

Let's put it this way....up until this past event, I've only had one accumulating snow in mby that I felt was different than what CMH was reporting...the clipper/squall weekend a couple weeks back, I actually thought I got more than CMH.   As far as this past event, it was hard to measure and it was incredibly localized, so although I don't think my backyard got 10", (closer to 7 or 8),  I certainly can see a place 10 miles away in any direction getting that.

My neighborhood is a mess of piled snow everywhere and like I said before, I haven't seen it this snowy and wintry, wrt snow on the ground since '09-'10.

So yea, 45" is 45" ...

12z euro update:

1.7" from sunday 'thing'

then 6-10" for next Wednesday-Friday southern system(s) that try to cut to the OV and transfers.  Definitely favors Ohio on east....not so much Indiana on west.

Don't jinx her, don't jinx her....Remember what this weekend looked like a few days ago. LOL
