NavarreDon
Just want an opinion, do you think that low is going to hit us? I can't tell if Robert is saying it's likely, or if it's just a possibility. I'm definitely not banking on it, but those rates would certainly be an awesome thing to witness. This will give you a good idea.....just refresh it every so often. Pretty neat as you can see the ULL plain as day. http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/southeast_loop.php

That would be the heaviest snowfall I've ever seen. I wonder what the timing of the band would be if it did hit us. Predawn?
HurricaneTracker
imho, that thing looks like it's going to crawl right up the spine of the NC Apps! Winner winner! Radar loops and models all show the upper low moving due east over the southern Apps. This was well forecast! Low has closed off and you can see why it's so important to have that in winter storms for heavy snows. Robert is excellent. Birmingham had 6" PER HOUR this evening and it's moving east. We should have a lull between midnight and 4am, and then boom!

I have about 8 inches in Hendersonville. By the way, does anyone know how Birmingham is handling that outrageous band?

WNC_Fort
Would that effect the foothills or mainly just the mountains? Either way I hope some of us cash in'

WxBlue
Measured mostly 5-6 inches all over the campus. Look like the spot I've been measuring is pretty high at 6.5 inches because it's little higher than most places.

jacobr57
Good news! GSP is now also highlighting the possibility of heavy snow and thundersnow from the ULL.
hoi_polloi9
About 6 here between Fletcher and Fairview with some spots a little more or a little less. Its slacked off considerably but still coming down. Looking forward to this ULL overnight!
jacobr57
I think I was in the sweet spot for this storm in Hendersonville. It was cold enough to be all snow, far enough south to get QPF, and it looks like a good position for the ULL later tonight.
SnoJoe
Just got back from Johnson City. Had to creep over Iron Mountain. Probably 6 inches up top .I've got a little over 3 at the house. Just a flurry now but very pretty.
WxBlue
Not sure if AVL is included in this judging by radar... @WxSouth 57s Writing is clearly on the wall. Models were too fast on upper low. Will pound East TN, SW VA, west NC all night long . Huge snows.

khuff27960
Just at 4 inches up here in Barnardsville. Those holes showing up on the radar have been very real out this way. Finally switched over from graupel to snow at 5pm. Moderate to heavy snow mostly being that of small flakes with multiple long lulls in between. Just began Snowing again mixing slightly. At this point I've just acknowledged that Robert is far more knowledgable than me and he says west of I-77 is a good position.

Secondly yes Asheville will be affected. You can see by the radar the ULL has basically stalled as Robert has pointed out. once it slowly moves over our region watch out. Would not be surprised if we pick up another 4-6 inches before it all ends tomorrow, well maybe more depending on the speed of the ull. The slower it is the better once it gets over WNC. Yeah, I just caught myself before jumping off the cliff. You're right, we all should be happy with 7 inches or more I still got a long way to go learning meteorology... it's my first winter in mountains after all! jacobr57
That ULL hasn't moved at all. It's like a permanent feature of Alabama now, I think. The great green dot of Alabama, Earth's rival to the Great Red Spot of Jupiter.
