The winds will be incredible though. Seems like it's always windy on that ridge. I'll be up there tomorrow for a little while. A friend mine has a house about a quarter mile from where the blacktop ends.

Met1985
NAM has definitely trended weaker with backside mtn snow on last 2 runs Nam was terrible last year with upslope events. I don't see that changing this year. I know your just making an observation but I think this will be a solid event griteater.

wncsnow
Cool hope you guys are right. I see mixed signals on the backside synoptic snow band in the early AM I agree, the RAP and NAM both show less moisture, but the interesting this is the ULL has dug further south than progged, although im not quite sure what effect that will have upstream
Met1985
Cool hope you guys are right. I see mixed signals on the backside synoptic snow band in the early AM Ya seems there has been mixed signals all day. I think were you are headed you will do just fine. I am wondering were the moisture is going to come from this second wave.
Met1985
Although for the mountains I think the biggest thing we will be looking at is the upslope event. The winds are going to be howling and that is going to create some nice bands of snow in those favored areas.
griteater
I think there will be a band that sweeps through, but question how heavy and how scattered the precip will be
Met1985
I think there will be a band that sweeps through, but question how heavy and how scattered the precip will be Ya you can kind of see the precipitation coming up from the south is trying to gather back up towards the north. Looks healthy but not sure how that ties into tomorrow morning.
Met1985
The cold air is filtering in as we speak. You can see some snow breaking out in north AL and temp here has dropped back to 38 degrees.

griteater
GFS looks better than the NAM for sure

MikeGold
Getting snow and sleet right know Car an most surfaces have a quarter inch on them. Quick look at radar this morning-looks like the storm snow will mostly be a bust in the mtns with precip associated with the upper cold pocket swinging way South. Now lets see what the upslope will do.

So far we have moderate snowfall with an inch of snow and some ice underneath that with a temp of 26 degrees.
MikeGold
Relative Humidity West of the mtns looking good for upslope although radar returns are sparse except what is associated with a moisture plume off of Lake Michigan. Wind streamlines have that impacting the NW mtns of NC later today. There is some wind shear which may tend to spread the snow out a bit. Balsam Gap webcam pretty snowy this morning. Met1985
Great shot of the moisture coming off the Lake Mike. I was noticing this during some of the runs yesterday seeing this and wondering if that would translate to a good event here.

MikeGold
Looking at BUFKIT etc..snow growth will be happening right at ridge top level until tomorrow morning..got to think Mt LeConte will pick up at least 10" out of this setup. I will be getting reports later today from my own mtn top-perhaps with pics. (Edit: Only about 1" up top currently.)

Ya Mike even though the radar returns are not there we have started the upslope event here in Haywood and probably across the mountains. We have had snow consistently falling through the morning with winds gusting to 30 mph. Current temp is down to 23 degrees.
NavarreDon
Jackson, KY radar shows light returns starting to build & head towards the Mnts. I think it's going to be a nice event for you 85.
