2nd Annual Snow Thread for the Mountains

This has been a really interesting event to watch unfold. It's funny how the entire nature of the storm has shifted from one of overrunning to an actual low coming through the area and yet the totals have been relatively consistent.

I've never seen the models give the area major snowfall with two possible solutions dumping on us, perfect timing though. Been a wild week of swings, but a consensus is being reached finally.

Some radar returns starting to show up locally so expect some snow to start in next couple of hours.

NWS starting to get more onboard with this next storm. They hit the blue ridge pretty well.  I'm sticking with 8" locally but might up it to 8 to 12" if the wetter trend in the models continues with the 12Z runs. Looking at the thermal profiles..on the warm side with snow growth region very high in the clouds so ratios probably no better than 10 to 1 or so.

Yes, and backed up by GSP on the morning updated snowfall map. Now, just need to iron out the placements as the system tracks into the area.

Boy oh boy are people  this morning going to love the trends of the models. The GFS trended much better for us. Giving  large part of WNC 6 to close to a foot of snow in many of the mountain areas. Wow I am really liking these trends.

Mike I think you get 20"+ on the mountain top!

The weather observer up there hopes not-as they will be completely stranded if that happens!  I hope to be up top Saturday morning-or as close to the top as I can drive my car-then walk in the rest of the way if necessary.

Man I hope not either but this storm has Balsam Bomb written all over it.
