Hvward
BTW I think that radar grab I posted earlier is possibly lake effect snow occurring near Ft. Campbell KY. Pretty neat looking lake right where precip is at per checking google earth.
Kilgore Trout
Getting a few more flurries here in the ville. While I will still wait for the big one, today was a pleasant surprise. Nice job Hurricane. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Met1985
Ya guys we have been getting some heavier returns here also. Snowing nicely but the wind has really started to pick up. Temps holding around 12-13 degrees. This stiff is very fluffy. Some nice flake size also.
Met1985
To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure. I was just basing it off the RAP output. Great job HT!
franklin NCwx
What's a paste bomb? As a teacher, I've seen it happen in Kindergarten classes many times during arts and craftsheavy wet snow. Its where you are straddling the line of most qpf but close on temps. Usually a 33 or 34 degree snow that has a high water content that sticks to everything. Met1985
I have a feeling when that band comes through we are going to get some heavy snow. Maybe another 2-3 inches.
jacobr57
I have a feeling when that band comes through we are going to get some heavy snow. Maybe another 2-3 inches. What band are we referring to? And is it confined to the TN border or is another round in store for AVL, potentially?
jacobr57
If we're talking about that second band right over the border, it doesn't look as though it's going to make it over the mountains...right?

jacobr57
RAP says it won't but I have a pretty good feeling it will. I'm doubtful...I've been burned too many times on hopes like that. It would be awesome if it did though.

HurricaneTracker
If we're talking about that second band right over the border, it doesn't look as though it's going to make it over the mountains...right? So far, that is correct. The band should die an awful death at the state line. At least according to the RAP, which as we know, has been rather stellar today with the snow forecast. I see no reason to deviate from its solutions. EDIT: In fact, the RAP indicates that TN band won't live anywhere past 10pm EST. Let's see how it goes. You can already see the western escarpment eating it alive. It's also shrinking by the minute. Maybe, just maybe, it'll hang on long enough for some spill over on the border counties. 'Bout time we put this one to bed but it's been a fun day. I can't wait to see some pictures and footage of the destruction down east in the morning. It's been fun to see their excitement and anticipation. I know that feeling well and I love it.

SnoJoe
Some of it's making it over the hump. I've got light snow. But Man it's cold. Down to 9.7 with a steady breeze. With all the talk of the snow, I forgot we were in arctic air.
WxBlue
Went out to measure the snow and I got 1.5 inches and it actually started to flurry again while I was out there.
Met1985
Really ripping here again. That line is making it over the boarder and it is laying it down.
HurricaneTracker
Really ripping here again. That line is making it over the boarder and it is laying it down. Fascinating. The RAP insists it should be over by 9pm already! Clearly this has generated some dynamical forcing of its own for a while. I still don't expect it to reach AVL. Looks like we are seeing some of the heaviest snow we have seen all day right know. The radar returns are looking very healthy for the boarder counties. Hvward
Radar looks very similar to how it does when Asheville gets our best NWF snow.
