NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

AS OF 950 AM...THE SURFACE COLD FRONT CURRENTLY EXTENDS FROM ABOUT
NORTH CENTRAL GA UP THE GREAT TENN VALLEY IN EAST TENN. AN AREA OF
LIGHT/MOD SNOW HAS BLOSSOMED RECENTLY ACROSS THE SOUTHERN
APPALACHIANS IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE FRONT...SO POPS WILL QUICKLY
RAMP UP TO CATEGORICAL BY EARLY AFTERNOON ACROSS THE WESTERN MTNS.
NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED REGARDING THE FORECAST THINKING FOR THIS
AFTERNOON. WITH ARCTIC AIR QUICKLY FILTERING INTO THE MTNS...THERMAL
PROFILES WILL BECOME VERY FAVORABLE FOR ACCUMULATING NORTHWEST FLOW
SNOW SHOWERS...WITH STEEP LAPSE RATES FROM THE SURFACE THROUGH ABOUT
H6...MIN TEMPS AS COLD AS -20 IN THE MOIST LAYER EXTENDING TO
H7...AND MODERATELY STRONG NW FLOW. AS THE INTENSE MID-LEVEL SHORT
WAVE TROUGH TRAVERSES THE AREA DURING THE AFTERNOON...SCT MOUNTAIN
SNOW SHOWERS ARE LIKELY TO DEVELOP WELL EAST OF THE USUAL
LOCATIONS...ALTHOUGH APPRECIABLE ACCUMS SHOULD BE MUCH MORE SPOTTY
IN AREAS CLOSER TO THE BLUE RIDGE. SOME LOCATIONS COULD PICK UP A
QUICK 2 OR 3 INCHES...WHILE MOST AREAS WILL SEE LITTLE OR NO ACCUM.
WARNING/ADVISORY PRODUCTS APPEAR TO BE WELL-PLACED AND NO CHANGES
ARE ANTICIPATED.
