Met1985
Last obs for the day. We are holding at 26 degrees with heavy bursts of snow with about 1 inch of snow on the ground. Our highest wind gust was around 37 mph.
SnoJoe
Very intense band coming through now with a gust to 59 about 5 minutes ago. At least for this particular squall it's blizzard conditions, period.
MotoWeatherman
Flakes flying in dahlonega in the mtns of ga. When that happens here then its always good for wnc.

Met1985
Nice to see some good reports last night and man you are right Moto anytime you have flakes as far south as North Georgia it is a good thing for us. The forcing on this thing is unbelievable for this time of the year. Well got up to stoke the fire and temp down to 21 degrees with a little over 2 inches on the ground and just hammering outside. Whiteout conditions for sure. Man oh man what a nice treat for Mid March.
Met1985
Man just took a peek at the radar and this is classic a classic NW flow setup for the mountains. The bands coming in from all the way up into Kentucky are aligned perfect for my area.
Tacoma
GSP is thinking snow developing Sunday night for all the nc mtns and could reach the upstate and northern ga. by Monday morning. saying wwa probably for all the mtn. zones sunday night monday morning. wish this would give most of us a nice 3 or 4 inch snowfall to end the winter on. maybe this will trend even better . saying monday nite could be some freezing rain so maybe another wwa for then. wow keep it coming. At least for this particular squall it's blizzard conditions, period. Would have been interesting to see what Grandfather reported last night but it appears the weather station went dead late afternoon yesterday with sustained winds of 59 and gusts to 94 mph. Glad those in Western NC got a little snow over night. I decided to share some of it as I'm running out of places to pile the snow at my Michigan residence! (Image from yesterday afternoon..5 below zero this morning but the snow is over for at least a few days.)
NavarreDon
Brutal night for mid March for sure. Howling wind, bursts of heavy snow, & temps in the mid 20's. Hard to measure but a best first guess is around .75" on the white stuff.

Lots of roads where skating rinks this morning! I've seen it so many times here and this was the NW Flow event that I dread in many ways. The roads were warm and those initial burts of snow melted, then froze. Even if there is only .25 inch snow on the roads, look out, it's covering a thin layer of ice underneath!!! And it never fails to catch people off guard and in turn create a lot of accidents.
Blue_Ridge_Escarpment
Had a 8AM flight out of Asheville Regional this morning. Almost blizzard like conditions when I got to the airport and was still snowing when we took off. I'm now in Orlando and enjoying the 60's and what will be 80's by tomorrow. After our harsh winter this will be refreshing.

nrgjeff
Sunday is starting to look a little warm even for the NC mountains, but some models still have a cold and stout back wave coming in on Monday which would be snow in the mountains. Monday temp profile is also helped by the surface high north. Today's 12Z NAM looks great for NC mountains hours 72-84 but I'm not sure about trusting the NAM that far out. Canadian has been bullish for Monday, but it is sometimes too bullish this far out. GFS keeps waffling on track and moisture - whatever. Euro has some variance, but not nearly as much. Euro still paints mountain snow Monday. Keep in mind for the mountains a 546 thickness with -4 at 700 mb brings the snow, regardless of 850 waffles, no problem! Tacoma
Do you guys think there is potential for anything here tomorrow night or Monday? Models have been shifting south my thoughts also, its looking like a perfect track for the mtns. keeps trending south. should be just on the nw side of the storm with cold air just to our north looks like a good setup. Hvward
Looks icy right now guys, not gonna lie. Hopefully things continue to trend colder. I like the setup of this cad better then the last storm but the warm nose is showing up on the nam. Precip. according to bufkit never gets heavy enough to cool the entire column to freezing, leaving an area of above freezing temps between 3000' and 4000' ft.
