Well folks, this one is over. Gotta give credit to the NAM (gasp!!). It had the temp profiles modeled absolutely spot on. Should be all rain for most of the mountains rest of the night and tomorrow. Enjoy the nice warm weekend though!

What a tough system. But a fun one. The ULL just didn't work it's magic in time. Incredible that the NAM finally got one right. Scored the coup over all other models, including GFS, Euro, and CMC. Wow.

I actually have at least an inch of snow here and sleet at the moment.  And correct me if I'm wrong but the ULL will be coming through tomorrow morning, and the latest NAM shows a burst of snow tomorrow morning.

Interesting. Very interesting. But I'm not convinced. Temps in south AVL are in the upper 30s! No way we cool enough for snow like this map shows.

Looks like it would be about .14 inches liquid of snow. Not buying it though.

Huge bust in n ga. Figure this was the last real shot for measurable snow this winter. Stranger things have happened I suppose. Heading for FL next friday for a week so probably won't see snow til next season. All those seeing snow tonight enjoy.

Wow Mikegold with 110 inches of precip last year. That's insane. Ill give the storm chasing a go this spring/summer. Mnt wx is all new to me so I'm very excited. Thanks for the info and great maps.

Well I hate that this storm is turning to rain for most but here in Haywood we are still getting hammered with moderate snowfall. Not sure if we are just keeping the cold better or because of the elevation but it is pure snow still.

I hope you hang in there as long as you can but I'm afraid it's coming. In the last half hour I've got all rain and temps went up almost 3 degrees. Winds have picked up too..

Thanks Joe. Indeed we are still hanging in there. Although I can tell temps are warming up a bit in the upper atmosphere. Flake size is about the size of a silver dollar know. Very pretty but wondering how long we can hold out.

Nice Met. Just a cold rain down here. Maybe we can get a few flakes when that heavy band rolls through but I am not holding my breath.

Man that is really depressing because we are getting just pounded here. Snowfall rates are probably 1 to 2 inch per hour right know. Temps have fallen back down to 31 degrees and everything is turning white again. Huge snow flakes. Have not seen a good paste like this is quite some time.

Haha you gotta love the mountains.. But if I am reading what phil posted in the OBS thread correctly it looks like we could change back to snow?

Ya possible. We had some thundersnow about 15 minutes ago. It is just hammering away. So this has been an amazing little system. Snow has backed of a bit but roads are slush covered and white. DOT are having a tough time keeping roads clear because it is snowing so hard.

Hopefully this ULL can get going for us.

what a bust for buncombe county, really disappointed  the way it started snowing yesterday I thought we would at least get 5 inches if not more and all we have is a cold rain all night.  thought the models had it figured better than this.

Ended up being all snow on the mtn top with temps remaining in the 20's.  In fact-it appears it was almost all snow even down to Balsam Gap suggesting that local uplift along the NW to SE trending Balsam mtns with a wind out of the East eliminated most or all of the warm nose; as one often sees along the Blue Ridge escarpment areas during a CAD situation.  As Met mentioned-snow currently wrapping in from the NW and a rather intense band is sitting on the mtn at the moment.

As I've noticed in past events-ridge top temps end up being several degrees colder than free air modeled temps for some reason.

Unfortunately, locally- total precip were rather modest-only enough to generate several inches of snow. Not clear just how much more will fall.

Hahaha! Was making my son breakfast about 6:30. I looked out the kitchen window to see a complete paste bomb with a lot of silver dollar sized flakes. Enough to turn the ground white. Not sure if I should be happy or if Mother Nature is pouring salt in my wounds?

Well, you made me go look out the window; nothing but light rain in East Asheville at the moment.

Did Buncombe not even have a delay this morning? Looks like I'm back to just normal rain here

Only the Owen district (Black Mnt area) had a 2 hr delay. Elsewhere it was no buses on icy roads. Madison decided to call off school about 45 minutes ago after starting with a 2 hr delay.

man all we had was some snow last night about 6 it was snowing heavily and then it changed to rain and snow and that is all we had all night other than a little snow this morning which didn't amount to anything.  thought Buncombe would have at the very least 2 or 3 inches and maybe even 6.  what a no show.  this would have made me happy until next winter.  I know we've had snow later than this even in April but climo says we are running out of time if we haven't already.   :axe::cry:

Edit.  Kudos to all you guys who stuck with that we weren't going to get much snow out of this system.  great job to you guys.  I just thought once the snow started last night the temp would fall to the upper 20's.  but never happend it rose from 34 to 36.
